The best is Jeep. Their trail-ready engineering was known since WWII and still give the best off-road capabilities for a fairly-low price.
The most popular model is Wrangler. This model is known to handle the Rubicon Trail with no height adjustments whatsoever. By the mid-90s, a "Rubicon" package was available on the Wrangler, with all extras known for a great off-road experience.
By now, almost every Jeep has a new badging for proof of off-road capability, they call "Trail-Rated", If you see that on your Jeep, it means it has all capabilities used for off-road use, (Water Fording, Traction, Manuvering, Articulation and Ground Clearance), these highly needed for off-road driving.
Even though Compass and Patriot may not have much off-road capabilities (except Patriot with Freedom-Drive II 4WD off-road package- which barely gets the cut for "Trail-Rated" specifications), the rest of Jeep's lineup is true to the meaning "Trail-Rated" and ready for off-road use off the showroom floor.

It depends on how you will use it ! I could say a dunebuggy but you might not be able to drive it on the roads. A lot of guys said "Jeep" but didn't specify which one- I would recommend a Wrangler, but it might not have enough back seat room for you. Give us more info on what you need!

They are all good or they would be out of business.
If anyone says buy Dodge, or buy Ford or buy 'Toyota, it is because that is what they are driving.
This is one for you to decide and if anyone does not like what you drive, they can wallk, buy what YOU want and have fun.
