And if I also do that, is there still anything to buy so that I could serf the web??? And do I have to do the apple calling sevices or can I do a cheaper one???

You have to activate it first, and can't do anything until then. Not even see the time of day. They are working on hacking it open so you can use less expensive carriers, but have not done it yet.

NO... You can't buy an iPhone with out a service provider.... You could but the phone from ATT and unlock it so you could use it with different providers... but that is as close as you can really get.

It's not Apple's calling services - it's AT&T. You can't do any surfing or calling without their full service -- about $2000 for two years. Sorry...

u can get an iPhone w/o subscribing to cingular. but if u do decide u want service, you have to use cingular. yea, u can do everything else but its not worth the 500 bucks just get an iPod

No the phone will not work at all unless it is registered through i-tunes.
