If you are Katie Couric, you have to take that job. You have to take a shot at making history as the first solo woman anchor. Besides, the hours are a lot better.
A better question might be: should CBS have hired her? It was a somewhat cosmetic way to spruce up the newscast, as CBS has some problems there. However, we have to give Couric a little time to fit in. Instant answers probably aren't appropriate here, and more experimenting is needed to find a good format for her. She was great on the Today show, and we'll have to wait and see if she can make the switch.

By the looks of it, it was the wrong decision to move to CBS. But Meredith seems to be doing well in Today Show and Katie Couric can't go back. And even if she did, Katie Couric will be labeled as the woman who brought CBS ratings down.

I really like Meridith on the morning show, I can't stand Katie Couric's crooked smile all the time she has had a few hair styles that made her smile cute but not usually.

Soft news seems to be her strength, even though has a solid background in journalism. She seems more palatable to viewers as an anchor on a show like "Today." Some of this might be typecasting-- but I think it's just what she's suited to.
So yes.
