Well, in a pound there are 16 ounces. So in 2 1/2 pounds there are 40 ounces.

16 x 2.5= 40
3 x 2.5= 7.5

This means there are 7.5/40 in the mix right now. If he wants to increase the number of peas in the mix, just multiply 5 x 2.5, which equals 12.5. Then subtract 7.5 from 12.5, which gives you 5. So, the smallest number of ounces he can add is 5.

Hope this helped.

Who puts peas in a party mix anyways?

The total weight initially is 2 1/2 lbs. This is 40/16. If the original mixture contains 3/16 of peas then there are
3 x 2 1/2oz of peas = 7 1/2 oz. To make 5/16 it will be 5 x 2 1/2 =12 1/2 oz
