This is a tricky issue, and one for which there are good reasons on both sides.

The reasons the US should support Pakistan is to aid combat in Afghanistan as well as make sure that nukes do not fall into the hands of rogue states.

Well those are the arguments.

But, Pakistan has helped spread nuclear technology to states that are not that friendly to the west.

Also troops from the west are fighting in Afghanistan to promote democracy, but are using the help of an illegal military dictatorship to do so.

In order to bring about peace in the middle east, we need to bring about democracy, and help democracies there, not dictatorships.

No, America should not be in the business of propping up military dictatorships.

The only rational alternative, though, would be a pre-emptive first strike against Pakistan, since any other would-be leader of that nation would be pro-Islamist, putting nuclear weapons in the hands of terrorists.
