Ok - I'm not going to comment on the weather, looks, or how polite people are or aren't. Politics is the subject.

I was born in the North and lived there up until college when I moved to Georgia so I might be able to give a good opinion of my overall experience.

I find the South to be somewhat backwards in their political philosophies. The schools are crap, largely because of politics (people in positions of power ignoring issues based on race, religion etc) most Southern schools come in last as far as performance in the country.

They are not as open to new ideas and stick to tired and worn out agendas. Case in point - the whole confedertate flag issue. The majority of southern flags were changed in the 50's in retalitation to the burgeoning Civil Rights movement. It was basically an "eff u" to the blacks. So then when blacks were rightfully indignant that this symbol be taken off state flags, all the good old boy politicians made a big deal and tied up their respective governments debating over it. C'mon. How bout we talk about recycling. Which my city still has yet to put into affect, btw. But - they painted all of the garbage trucks green as a symbol of solidarity in the eco battle of earth's resources. whoo hoo. go Savannah!

I like the North much better. It has its problems too, but at least most of the states are blue.

I can site so many other things - esp. Georgia since I've lived here for awhile. The gov't got their road money revoked for refusing to change the limit for DUI - the Feds wanted it to be even less, Georgia said "no way" and so we got crappy roads for awhile until politians decided they were wrecking the suspension on their SUVs.

And now I will go off topic very briefly. People say that folks from the South are friendlier. Maybe to your face. But once you turn your back, they are ugly and mean. They have no tolerance for anything or anyone that is different than them.
I am an extremely tolerant and kind person to everyone, but only down here have I heard the "n" word, heard people talk and gossip about people and situations they know nothing about and are generally act mean spirited towards people when they think no one is watching.

The north is vehemently anti-highway, which is why they have so many traffic jams. They refuse to allow any road improvements and end up putting more drivers in more roads that can't handle them, creating more pollution and risking more accidents. On the other hand they've got better arts and cultural affairs. Given the choice between USF Library and NYPL in Bryant Park, I'd chose the one in Bryant Park.

In the south, specifically places like Florida you can drive 70 mph on Interstate Highways, and some toll roads. I've heard in Texas you can drive even faster. On the other hand, some of the people in the south are the very essence of what you'd think of as a hillbilly. What many people don't know about the south is that there are people there that are almost as sophisticated as those from the north, as well as dumb hicks and rednecks who still burn crosses and want to go back to the days of Jim Crow. Most southerners aren't as much of a fan of these people as you might expect.

I love the south, especially the Carolina's. The biggest reasons being: the weather is nice, it's very pretty year round, we have family values and strong ethics, we aren't backwards like many think we are, and because it's where my family is from. Go Gamecocks. Also, we haven't built that many factories to pollute the environment and we are now taking drastic steps to lessen the impact of unchecked population growth. The south must be the best, how else can you explain all those folks from up north moving here?

North because I'm a city kind of girl, and most big cities are in the North.

Then again, I love the South because of the music and the accent.

The North has its liberals, and conservatives too. Stereotypically, the North is more tolerant, and that's good, no matter who you are. Even if you're very morally opposed to something, it's nice to know that by being tolerant, and living in a tolerant area, the shoe is on the other foot; you will not be ridiculed for what you choose to do.

I was born in the South and love the friendliness and laid back additude of the South. I also consider myself a liberal and there are alot of liberal southerners that people from the rest of the country would never think.

The South, not only do we have beautiful women, the people are friendly, it is not as racists as the Media would like you to believe, the weather is nice, the food is good, and you can get sweet tea in a restaurant...only thing I really do not like is you can not throw a rock without hitting a church or a preacher...I am not against religion...but the few hypocrites I knew growing up have thrown me off organized religion...Politically, I like the politics here...i have lived in the North, it is too cold and the people are rude...Hawaii was ok, but it was way too Liberal...

The North is smarter. I have lived in LA, AL, TX, and MN. The north is MUCH more intelligent.

The north also has far fewer confederate flags flying. :-) I know, of course it would, but still. I don't think there are cities I can't go to in the north, there are places in Alabama I was refused services 6 years ago.

Maybe the South. They gave us Clinton in 1992 and 1996 and are working hard at atoning and providing the nation restitution for that.
