Last night my son flushed some baby wipes down the toilet, it totally overflowed all over the floor and then went down slowly. I thought that since it had gone down it may be alright, so a couple hours later I tried it again. All over the floor once again. So I've left it alone since last night and the water has not gone down, it's sitting right at the top of the bowl. I tried bailing it out, but as fast as I bailed it out, it filled right back up, all the way to the top. Why is it filling back up? My boyfriend is buying a plunger on his way home from work, so we'll try that, but I also heard about pouring dishsoap in it, allowing it to sit and pouring warm water in it, I was going to try this and see if it helped, which is why I was trying to bail it out. Anyone know why it is filling back up, and what I should do? Thanks in advance for the help!

shut off the supply valve, use a plunger till it goes down, you might have to use an auger, if that doesn"t work.

If the force cup (Plunger) doesn't work, you may have to rent (at any hardware store) a tool called a coset auger. It has a hook on the end of a cable and you can snake the drain line for 10-12 feet and remove the clog. If that doesn't get the job done, it's time to call a plumber with a drain cleaning machine.

The plunger should work. Once, a dorm toilet was clogged. I plunged it for about a half hour and eventually a wooden spoon popped out! While you wait for the plunger, turn off the water valve that leads to the toilet and don't use it. Good luck.

I would guess that the wipes went down and clogged the main drainline and the water that is coming into the toilet now is from other fixtures. Water seeks it's own level so the pipes are probably filled the height of the toilet rim.

Try using a metal unwound coat hanger to pull the wipes back out of the toilet or to push them farther in. I don't know ifit will work but it's worth a try. Good luck.
