my preferences would be Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki with yamaha being last or wait for another bike to come along.

the CB, KZ and GS were all very reliable, dependable and bullet proof designs, in good working order and properly maintained, any of these will last you a long time. I personally have never had good luck with a yamaha, but that might just be me???

I maintain my own bikes and am a perfectionist, so my toys (roughly 60+ (street, dirt, race bikes) over the last 40 years) are all top notch at any given point in time. I have never owned a yamaha that I felt as dependable (owned 6 (4 dirt/2 street) different ones, all had costly issues while still being maintained like the other brands). some of my friends swear by yamaha and have had good luck...

so really it all comes down to which one do you prefer and the condition of each...

I like the CB.
An old friend, who I saw during Bike Week, is still riding the Seca he bought new. It's the bike for him.
The Suzuki is a larger version of the '79 I had. It was a good bike, one of my favorites.
The only Kawasaki I ever rode was a 2-stroke 400. Zippy thing that was.

Better is a relative term. I like this, Joe likes that............
