When she was pregnant, two years ago, I cleaned the nasty thing because of diseases. They're her cats, she won't go near the box. I've tried letting it go, but it doesn't seem to bother her. Help!!!

really dude how long does it take to scoop out the cat crap?

I bitched about it too wife never did the cat box once I got into the picture....but I did the opposite. i got another cat. I figured if Im gonna forever clean cat crap one might as well be mine.

After 5 years of crap scooping, I stopped fighting it and realized it only takes me 10 minutes to shovel it away..Because then i got a dog...a big dog with big poop...cat crap is nothing now..

Get a self-cleaning litter box. It's like $100, but it'll be worth the investment. Does she take care of them otherwise? If you provide a loving home for them, don't go getting rid of them, there are too many homeless animals out there. Also, and this will sound weird, but you CAN train them to use the toilet if you don't want to get the self-cleaning box. Look it up. It'll take about a month. Here are the steps:
designate one toilet in the house for the cats (assuming you have more than one), leave the door open and seat up at all times)
1) Start moving the box closer and closer to the bathroom at the rate of a foot a day. If the cats regress at any point, put the litter box back to where it was when they were still using it properly, then continue.
2) Once they are using the box in the bathroom, start moving it closer to the toilet. Eventually putting it ON TOP of the closed lidded toilet.
3) Buy a disposable aluminum cake pan and fill it with DISPOSABLE cat litter. Lift up the open holed seat and suspend the pan so it will hold their weight just under the hole in the seat. You can do this by squeezing the pan in between the seat and the toilet and duct taping it down. Leave this here for a couple days
4. Cut a small hole in the aluminum litter box so that litter and possibly small poops will fall through. As the days go by, progressively make the hole larger. The cats will begin aiming for the hole. Eventually, they will be perched on the seat aiming for the toilet and Wa la!

One obstacle: cats have an instinct to scratch so you might have to take the final steps slowly as they will be losing the stuff they want to scratch and regression might happen if you move too fast.

Good luck!

Talk to the vet and get some information about what could happen to the cats with an unsanitary cat box. Then tell her you are not going to sit by and watch her harm her cats(not to mention your child) but not taking care of her animals. Tell her that they are not your cats, you aren't going to clean out the box and if she can't or won't then the humane thing to do is find a home for the cats. Call and make arrangements with a no kill shelter or a cat rescue. They will find the cats a home with someone who gives a rats behind about them rather than you and your wife.

Don't get pets again, anyone who uses their pets as weapons don't need to own them. Anyone who cannot put the well being of a helpless animal above their inconvenience doesn't have any business owning them.

You might also want to make arrangement for your care when you get too elderly to take care of yourself. I'm not sure I'd trust her.

How about saying "Hey, I'm tired of cleaning the litterbox all the time. How bout you do it at night, I do it in the morning?"

No need to get nasty about it, but if she refuses, remind her of the situation (the cats being hers, you taking over only for the whole toxoplasmosis thing during pregnancy, etc). You're not her (or her cats') maid.

the "disease" you are referring to is toxoplasmosis, and i cleaned litter boxes when pregnant, and never got the stuff... it's rare.

maybe your wife has lost her sense of smell since the pregnancy? it's hard to tell.

if you want to make a concession and keep cleaning the litter box, get the clumping kind. it takes about 5 minutes in the morning or evening to scoop and toss into the trash. when needed, replace it with all fresh litter, which does't take long either.

if you are really disgusted, ask your wife to start taking care of her cat (is it just hers?). and you do the dishes or something.

i don't know what else to say?

That's pretty disgusting for her not to take responsibility for her pets. Now that you have kids, maybe you should sit down together and make a chores list because you are both going to have to help each other even if you are the only one working. Add the cat's litter box to her list of chores.

Let her know that she either cleans the box or the cats go. You have to be firm about this. You may even have to shoot one of the cats to let her know you mean business. (j/k about the shooting)

Seriously though. Tell her that she either cleans the box or comes home one day to find her cats "missing".

I had the same situation with my ex. That's one of the reasons she is my ex. She said it was better that we live in separate homes instead of her changing the litter box. So I moved out, and we ended up going separate ways for numerous reasons. The underlying reason of course being that she was unwilling to compromise on issues that were important to me.

Simply tell her that if she wants to keep the cats, she will need to keep the litter box cleaned out or you will get rid of the cats. Don't try the subtle approach, that obviously is not working. Not only is it nasty and unhealthy for you and your family, it is not healthy for the cats either.

I even have 3 cats and a million muddle container basically with a cover. have confidence me all you want is one muddle container yet you do could shop it clean. I scoop the muddle container each and every morning and then on Saturdays I empty the muddle container, wash it with cleansing soap and water and placed the clean muddle container back in. i exploit the Arm and Hammer form. The greater muddle bins you get the worst it particularly is going to be. think of approximately it, in case you have a number of muddle bins, then you definitely won't scoop them as often by using fact you have lots of. Cats hate grimy muddle bins so in the event that they're grimy and stinky they'll bypass to the bathing room someplace else. All you want is one super container with numerous muddle. Scoop it as quickly as interior the morning and as quickly as earlier you bypass to mattress and then clean it with cleansing soap and water on the weekends. attempt it for a pair of weeks and spot in case you have greater advantageous effects. additionally, you're perfect approximately given them good high quality foodstuff. I feed my cats California organic, good Gold, Felidae, Innova, hen Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul, Nature's form Prairie and a pair of others and their poop is tough and would not scent too undesirable and as quickly as I freshen up their muddle container there is rarely any poop in it inspite of the certainty that like I suggested, I do clean it conventional. Getting a number of muddle bins isn't the respond. Have in simple terms one and clean it conventional and you will be ok.
