For those that are acting like I'm assuming all people that have pets should be made of money? Wrong. I'm not a "millionare." In fact, I've had to pay bills late before to take my dog to the vet after she injured her hip. I'm talking about the people who get an animal and then refuse to take it to the vet, even when it's insanely ill, because they "can't afford it."

Also, you shouldn't get an animal assuming it WON'T have to be taken to the vet. You should be doing the exact opposite.

i aggree with you compleatly. there are so many questions on hear where the animal clealy needs medical treatment but the owners cant afford it. (i just feel sory for the poor animals)
but i do think that most vets are too highly priced and that more vets should accecpt payment plans.
and peoples sercumstances change, so they may of been able to afford vets bill at first but may be going through a tough pach where money is tight.(im not saying thats justerfys not to get treatment) but if they cant afford routine or small vet bills at the time of getting the animal then maby they should wate untill they can.
i opened a savers account and put my student loan and colege grants in there, and now i dont touch that money as im keeping if for incase one of my animals gets sick and gets a large vet bill.

People often get a pet with good intentions, but fail to realize that there are many expenses that go along with having the responsibility of a pet. It is unfortunate for both the owner of the pet and especially the pet itself if it doesn't receive the care it needs. Pets are like children - You Have To Be Responsible For Their Health And Well Being Because They Can't Do It For Themselves. If you can not afford the responsibility after you have the pet you should find a good home for them where they can and will get the care they need and deserve.

Well, I am in your corner. Too many pets sick, overweight, or dying because people won't or can't take care of them. Too many pets in the shelter for the same reason. It would be a pain for the decent pet owners, but sometimes I swear people should have to take a class or a test and prove they can take care of a pet before being allowed to have one. In answer to your question, though, some people think about themselves, and not the pet. What a shame.

Sometimes people take in animals out of a sense of pity, often in a kill-shelter town, and get in over their heads. When I was out of work, my son came home with a tale of woe and a kitten. Before two weeks were out, it had a concussion and a crushed larynx (We never did find out how.) and I owed a bunch of money to the vet.
It was only because I'd met him earlier with one of his old college profs that he credited with getting him through college at all that I was able to work out a payment plan.

I agree! Expense is something that must be considered and planned for before getting a pet.

I agree! And people should also consider how long the pet will live.
