I was suppose to start my period yesterday ... in the late afternoon I decided I didn't want to wait anymore and took a pregnancy test.. I was almost positive it would come back negative ... then it started to change .... POSITIVE !!! I took 7 more because I was in total shock... and all came back with dark lines... Ok so I have 2 questions...
I miscarried 2 months before.. when I took the pregnancy tests then they came out with a faint + line... does the darkness of the line mean anything??
I bought these tests from the dollar store, a lot of people recomded them as being the same as an expensive test... is that true?

I don't think the darkness of the line means anything.. I miscarried my first pregnancy at 12 weeks and I had a really dark line with that one.. I am currently 8 months pregnant now and all the tests I took with this one had reaaaaaaaallly faint lines..

A positve is a positive. A darker line on a test versus as more faint line does not really tell you if you are going to miscarry. I know that is a fear, but don't worry about the darkness of the line at this point.

As far as the tests at the dollar store, I have never purchased mine there, but most think that all of the pregnancy tests out there are the same, testing the amounts of hcg in your urine. However, the more advanced "5 day sooner" tests are of course more expensive becuase they can get you faster results.

My suggestion to you would be to get in with your OBGYN immeditely, give you have a history of miscarriage. A blood test will probably be the next step to just make sure, but it is very rare for someone to have a false positve.
At this point, your OB can help you with your pregnancy to help keep you from having another miscarriage.

Good luck and I wish you the best.

A dollar store test is a test.. it may not be as sensitive as others, but they work.

7 positives.. girlfriend.. Congratulations!!!

The darkness of the line doesn't mean a thing.. I found out I was pregnant by blood test the day I was due.. I knew my HCG was like 200..I wanted to see it on an HPT so I did 2 of them and the line was extremely faint.. I knew I was definitely pregnant.

My numbers were doubling every 3 days not every 2, but my pregnancy was progressing normally and I had all the ultrasounds to prove it..

A line is a line.. darker may mean you are further along than you thought or you are producing a lot of HCG.

Congrats again.. Good Luck!

To tell you the truth, the dollar store tests and the generic tests can sometimes be more accurate than the expensive ones! I did a lot of research when I was trying to conceive. It is possible to get false positives a long with false negatives, but I would say after 7 tests that all have lines (the brightness does not matter) you are pregnant! Congratulations! If you are unsure of the line, this site has many pictures of positive and negative results. Just search around the site. I found it very helpful!

HPTs test for the "pregnancy" hormone in your urine stream. A positive is extremely rarely false. With 3 of my pregnancies (including my miscarriage), I got a very faint line when I took my HPTs. For all 3 of those pregnancies, my estrogen was low, and my doctor put me on hormone pills. I would assume the darker the line, the better. Go to the doctor so that s/he can give you an accurate positive, and let you know if you need a hormone supplement. As a sidenote, my finacees mom had a miscarriage, and never started her period again before she conceived my fiancees sister.

The price of the test isn't going to matter, they call check for the same hormone. The darkness of the line doesn't mean anything either, if it's there then it's there...if not then it's not. But you had 7 tests all come back positive...that means you're pregnant. Schedule a doctors appointment if you want to be sure.

All tests use the same method-they detect the HCG hormone to create a false or negative. IF you got a positive line, your pregnant. It doesn't matter how faint or dark it was. That just means your not as far along or you don't have as much of the hormome in your system. the further along you get, the darker and quicker the line will change. Congrats!

Those dollar store test are supposed to be just as accurate as the expensive ones, but b/c you said you miscarried 2 months ago then there is a chance the test isn't accurate. Sometimes the pregnancy hormone is still in your system and it picks up on that. Your best bet is to go get a blood test from your doctor or the health department and find out if you really are pregnant.

If you read the instructions, it'll tell you that the darkness of the lines don't mean anything at all. If its a positive, its positive. The dollar store brand tests for the same thing as the expensive ones. And after 7 of them, you can feel pretty confident its a yes. congrats.

the color of the line doesn't have anything to do with you loosing the baby or not loosing the baby. It just means that you have more of the pregnancy hormone in your body at the time you tested. If you take a test a week later i would assume that the line would be even darker. I am sorry that you lost the last baby but try (and i am sure its easier said than done) to relax and let your body make a strong baby. Good luck to you and your new family!
