Well, if you don't care for pricing and want the best laptop for everything, go for an alienware, they are pretty good. If you want the best value and great multimedia with everything being great, go to fry's or best buy on the weekends, and you can get a good laptop, but make sure it has centrino duo in it, 2 gigs of ram, about 160 of hard drive, plus it has to have a ati graphics card that isn't the ati200, but a crossfire, or nividia one. Also, make sure it has windows vista, not the basic one of course. You could get one like this at best buy for about 900$ with a free printer, but go during the weekends to look at the specials, that is when they are at this price.

Stay away from the big retail brands (HP, Compaq, Toshiba, eMachines, Sony). If you want a decent laptop, take a look at Asus, Lenovo or Alienware. Pretty much all the laptops at BestBuy, Circuit City, Costco, Frys are cheap, poorly built laptops that may look "cute" but you should Never buy based on how it looks because it's the internal components that count! Also, Plan on getting it with Window XP if possible or at least installing XP on it after you get it.

If you want fast, then you will need to do this ... look for an Intel CPU, not a Celeron, either Pentium 4 or Intel Core Duo, find one with 1GB - 2GB of RAM, and Windows Vista Ultimate Edition, you will be paying $1,000+ but it will be fast.

I've had problems with my Alienware laptop so I cannot recommend them. Dell might be an option, but they tend to be a bit overpriced. In high-end laptops you REALLY need to be concerned with overheating. I would check out the sites for gaming magazines like PC Gamer and see if they have archives of their hardware reviews to see what they recommend.

Well. You should try to find a comp. with this hardware.
Processor- Intel Core 2 duo(1.8ghz+) or Amd Athlon 64 x2
ram- If you get vista it should be at least 1gb, I recommend 2gb
hd- 120gb
video- anything which supports directx10(vista only), for vista don't get intel gma 950
screen- stick with 15' widescreen. The bigger the screen(resolution) the slower the comp. gets.
OS- I would say stick with xp. If you get vista you should get premium.

You should get a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092. I have one, and I love it. I would highly recommend it.
