It would be normal on the bottom but not really on the sides. You should expect the sides to be about the same temperature as the air and walls in the kitchen. Anything hotter and you should call the place you bought it and ask for warranty service on it.

Yes it is normal. When a fridge normally runs it is about 43 degrees inside of it. The sides don't feel real warm because there is not much heat to remove to get the temp back down to 40 degrees. Since it is new and the room temperature is probably about 74 degrees it has a lot of heat to get rid of.

Your fridge has what is called a yoder condenser loop. It rejects the heat that is removed from the food through the exterior steel case.

Some fridges have a blower and coil that is mounted under the unit so you would notice hot air blowing out from the bottom of that type.

Once your fridge is nice and cold inside it will not be that hot on the sides anymore. Just give it a few hours.

Must be a lot of people buying new fridges lately. This is not the first time this same question has come up.

How hot?

A refridgerator works by pulling out the hot air, not by cooling and blowing in cold air (as most people think). It normally blows the hot air out the bottom of the fridge - if you have a cat, now you know why the cat sleeps there - it's not for dropped food. So, it is possible that the heated air being blown out the bottom is causing it (being that hot air rises). But, that would only make it a little warm, I'd think. If it is very hot to the touch, I'd say you have a problem.
