A few years ago I worked for a year part-time as a tutor/teaching assistant for a 2nd grade class. On my last day, the 26 children in the class gave me very sweet goodbye cards/letters/etc. made out of construction paper and other materials (some of them very large). I smile every time I read them, but I feel like they're adding to the clutter in my house. Is it okay to throw them out? or should I hold on to them for memory?

i think you should keep them, it would be wrong to throw away something that those children spent such a long time making. you should put them away and look at them every time you're feeling down.

Use a digital camera to take pictures of all the things and save the pictures on the computer. Then throw them all out. Or create a nice scrapbook of all the cards that will fit and take pictures of the others to put in the scrapbook. Otherwise, it will add to the clutter of your house and you will not appreciate those memories as much.

Many years ago I organised an anniversary event for a school. One of the school's first employees got in touch and sent in some scrapbooks she had made of her time as a teacher at the school about 40 years before. They were a wonderful snapshot of that time. If you can save perhaps even the smallest ones in a scrapbook I'm sure it will be worth it in the future, even if the only person who sees them again is yourself. They will bring back happy memories.

I think you should select a few of the cards that are especially touching or from the students for whom you felt extra fondness. Toss the rest. Also, another thought that comes to mind---You could spread them on the floor and take some photos. That way, you can always remember them without the clutter.

I think that u should keep them. Just get a box or a place to put all of those memories inside that will be safe. Because if you have a bad day, u can just open the box and read the stuff and maybe that will make u feel better!!!

You may want to go ahead and put them in a scrapbook. That way, you can put the scrapbook on the shelf and take it out when you need a lift, but they don't add to clutter.

I would keep them for the memory - it was really nice of those kids to make them for you. That doesn't happen all the time :)

Either way - you will always have the memory.

I keep a couple very positive letters in my desk drawer at school. I have a ritual go through yearly as I set up - The last thing I do before the kids come on that first day, I read one or two to remind myself why I am a teacher.

good luck!

Only you can decide how much they mean to you. But when you are an old lady sometimes memories are all you have left and they can sure make you smile. One of these days you just might NEED that smile.

As my mom would say get rid of them. If you want a memento of the students to remind you of working there i would keep them. You can store them in a photo box and put it in the closet.
