False.

How would you feel about painting a house that was going to be torn down next week? Even worse, what if it was going to be torn down because it was somehow put there illegally?

People that believe they can support the troops and say the war is wrong, illegal, unjust, fabricated, etc are simply deluding themselves. The truth is this - You are destroying our soldiers' morale.

armypoetess....

I served for six years. I don't go around saying "the troops say this or that" based upon my personal experiences. I'm not trying to speak for the troops. Maybe you should practice what you preach.

More and more of our troops are realizing they are in the wrong place for the wrong reason. Ending the useless murder of America's finest and bringing them home is supporting them and their right to live. We are never going to stop much less win a civil war that has been going on for 2000+ years. Sending live bodies after dead ones is not suporting out troops.

The bottom line is this--we don't want to treat the troops like they were treated during the Vietnam war. The troops are good people who were sent to war by people we voted for. The war was based on the fact that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and there weren't any. We are there on either a huge mistake or a lie. Every general out there has said we need three times the troops & the nation isn't behind the war. The only way we could win this war is to have a draft and everybody knows that isn't happening. That gives us two options: Keep too few troops in Iraq to die for a hopeless cause or nothing. I think the US should have a manditory two year sevice for every American and we wouldn't be so quick to go to war. The bottom line is you can support the troops and not the war.

Yes, you can support the troops and not approve of this war. The troops are not robots and they have opinions too, which they are fully capable of forming themselves without help from the general public back at home. Just six months ago, military polls showed a majority of troops disapproved of the President's handling of this war. They know we support and love them at home. They also are bright enough to look around them and see the same thing most of us are seeing. Here, read this, and this was from six months ago:

http://www.militarycity.com/polls/2006_main.php

For the first time, more troops disapprove of the president’s han dling of the war than approve of it. Barely one-third of service members approve of the way the president is handling the war, ac cording to the 2006 Military Times Poll.

When the military was feeling most optimistic about the war — in 2004 — 83 percent of poll respondents thought success in Iraq was likely. This year, that number has shrunk to 50 percent.

Only 35 percent of the military members polled this year said they approve of the way President Bush is handling the war, while 42 percent said they disapproved. The president’s approval rating among the military is only slight ly higher than for the population as a whole.

Just as telling, in this year’s poll only 41 percent of the military said the U.S. should have gone to war in Iraq in the first place, down from 65 percent in 2003. That closely reflects the beliefs of the general population today — 45 percent agreed in a recent USA Today/Gallup poll.

Professor David Segal, director of the Center for Research on Mil itary Organization at the Univer sity of Maryland, was not surprised by the changing attitude within the military.

“They’re seeing more casualties and fatalities and less progress,” Segal said.

He added, “Part of what we’re seeing is a recognition that the intelligence that led to the war was wrong.”

TRUE!

I have deployed to OIF twice, and I support the troops, but like most of the troops you are referring to ~ they support each other - BUT DEFINITELY NOT THE WAR. Your statement is logically flawed (weak analogy, red herring, and false cause). Speak for yourself not the troops. If you want that right then why don't you pack your bags and go over there? Until then, take a course in logic and critical thinking..

True. The war war a mistake and the troops are paying for it.

I know plenty of soldiers who agree with this. I think their morale is getting far more worn down by the profiteering and corner cutting that comes from the Bush side of this debate...

______

incidentally, I have to admire the deviousness of your anology: I bet a lot of GI's wished they were just painting a house...

You can support the troops and not support the war. People can believe that the war is wrong but still have respect for the troops because they are risking their lives in Iraq.

Ah, NO. Supported every body when the War was actually accomplishing something by routing the Taliban. Was on the fence about Iraq until truth came out that our soldiers were being killed for no good reason. Did you not see the movie "A Few Good Men"? The truth is ultimately what we fight for. Checkmate.

If I wanted to paint a soon-to-be-demolished house, I would. I might be sad it was gone, but I would do it anyway.

You fail to understand many, many things. You are saying that Wives and husbands cannot love their Military spouses if they don't believe in the war. You are saying that feelings for people are nullified for a political belief. You are a realist of the worst type, as realism is best dealt with optimism.

Destroy a soldiers morale? If someone was caught up in a fight that was wrong, and their friends started cheering for them, would that destroy their morale?

TRUE to your question FALSE to your assumption!
the troops do not make the policies, they are just carrying out their orders.
There is no reason why one has to disrespect our troops, because you disagree with the failures and incompetency of their boss.

with your logic, you must be a communist supporter if you buy something "made in china"!

If my son working at Mcdonalds was told to kick my buddy out of the resturant after buying a meal there, but having brought in a drink from some other place, If I disagree with the actions taken by mcdonalds, doesn't mean I don't support my son doing his job!

You people and your silly assumptions, that equate support of our troops, with support for this quagmire, or even Bush as being America, will never cease to amaze me.
It is people, like you, that made things so easy for the nazis.

I'm sure some people think that opposing the war is supporting the troops, just as some pro-lifers think they are supporting pregnant women and guiding them away from bad decisions by making abortion illegal.

I think in both cases, the object of their "support" would disagree with them.

Furthermore, one cannot say with a straight face that the folks who compare our troops to Nazis, call them terrorists, or accuse them of cold-blooded murder (Durbin, Kerry and Murtha, respectively, and their ilk) are supporting our troops.
