They all have their own schedules. Their own days. They have emergencies that come up. Most of them are over worked.

Depending on the day it can be long grueling hours.
My dear friend was a family physician. She worked five days a week. And was on call four days a week every fourth or fifth week. As well as every fourth or fifth weekend. On call she received phone calls as many as four to five an hour.
Thoracic Surgeon might be on call depending on how many other thoracic surgeons are in his practice. He would see emergency patients, patients by appointment in his office as well as do surgery.... So I think the time could be even more than a family physician at times.

WELL HI THERE- TO ANSWER UR QUESTION, I WOULD SAY THE BEST THING TO DO IS CALL THE CLINIC WHERE THE PHYSICIAN SEE PATIENTS. A CARDIO THORACIC SURGEON IS A SPECIALIST, THEREFORE, YOU MAY NEED A REFERRAL. AGAIN, CALL THE PHYSICIAN'S OFFICE TO GAIN THE KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR WORKING HOURS. THERE ARE SOME PLACES THAT DO SEE PEOPLE 24/7, SUCH AS EMERGENCY ROOMS- SOME CLINICS ARE OPEN FOR EMERGENCIES 24/7- BUT, AGAIN, YOU NEED TO GAIN THIS KNOWLEDGE BY CALLING- MOST GENERALLY, DOCTORS ARE NOT AVAILABLE WHEN YOU STROLL IN-AS THEY HAVE SCHEDULES MADE BY THEIR FRONT DESK RECEPTIONISTS- WHICH, IN UR CASE, IS PROBABLY THE THING TO DO. WHEN IN DOUBT, CHECK IT OUT. GOOD LUCK- HOPE THIS HELPED YOU! PS- THE YELLOW PAGES ARE AN EXCELLENT WAY TO FIND PHYSICIANS IN UR AREA.

Physicians and surgeons would have to work as many hours it takes for their bosses and companies to make their profits, to pay for their mall practice, to cover their over head such as facilities, nurses, secretaries, office equipment, clinical / testing equipment and software and still earn a decent salary for themselves. About 80 hours would be a rough estimate. More and more companies would like their doctors spend less time with their patients and see more patients to generate higher revenue. And make sure they give quality care all the while, ofcouse!
