Most laptops from the last few years will support dual monitors.

If you have a VGA connector on the laptop just connect the monitor to that, then go to Display Properties, Settings Tab.

You should have a picture of two monitors 1 and 2, with 2 grayed out. 1 is your laptop screen, 2 is the external monitor. Click on monitor 2 and then on the "extend my windows desktop . . ." tick box. Click Apply. Set the resolution to what your monitor will work best at, and then drag the 2 monitor on the image to match the physical locations of your laptop and monitor. Click Apply. If everything looks good, then click OK. otherwise keep adjusting it to your satisfaction.

Do you have a VGA or the DVI. Which ever you have on your laptop just plug it to the computer. Then on the desktop right click and go to properties. Then go to settings. Now your going to have a one and two. Select two. Click on extend windows to this monitor. Thats how you do it. very simple. GOOD LUCK.

It depends on your video card. You can check your graphics properties and enable it through the video card's tool. Or you can try doin it through windows display settings. Right click the desktop, properties, settings, click the 2nd monitor and check the box for "Extend My Windows Desktop to this monitor." If that doesn't work, you have to use the tool supplied with your graphics card.
