As it was mentioned in a previous answer you may receive a lot of messages at once (old messages). just sign in through Yahoo! mail and check daily...good luck

In the last few days, a lot of my friends on yahoo are having problems with messages. One got as many as 700 in one day due to a 2 week backlog. That was an exception, but that is what's going on with some. I have not experienced it yet. Just have to wait till they clear up the bug.
