I am the biggest baby when it comes to needles. Trust me when you're in labor that needle is your best friend. Whatever you'd feel with the needle, is nothing compared to your contractions. If your nervous talk to your doctor about the side affects. I was glad that I had mine, I was able to somewhat enjoy by labor, plus, I got a little sleep before I had to push.

It's so very normal to be nervous that something will go wrong, especially with the first child. Nothing's gonna happen. Your daughter will be beautiful, and you will want the epidural by the time you're in labor. Millions of women use an epidural everyday without terrible side effects. Relax, breathe. There is this thing called Birth Amnesia, where you forget the pain of childbirth so you are willing to have more. Nothing bad will happen. Good luck! : ]

I had an epidural and had no complications. I waited for a quite a while before getting one, and by the time they gave it to me, the needle poke was no big deal compared to the contractions. Don't be nervous! Just remember that every person out there has a totally different birth experience. I let people make me nervous before my baby was born but it turns out my labor was easy compared to what I had been expecting. Just stay calm and go with it- the nurses and your doctor will be there to help you the whole way. Good luck! You will do just fine- and at the end you will have a beautiful little baby in your arms and you will forget all that hard work!

I don't do needles either. I've see on TV women getting an epidural while in labor and it seems worse than the contractions!
I have 2 children and #3 on the way and I just used the pain relief through the IV and it took the edge off.
Just breathe, stay calm, and try a focal point like a rose on the wallpaper boarder or something. And remember, it's only one day of pain for a life time of JOY!!!!!
Congrats and good luck!!!

I am in the same situation and have decided against the epidural. I think im willing to risk the pain of child birth rather than deal with the long-term side effects of the epidural.

Dont worry i was the same way. I was scared for 9 months about the pain, but after i had my epidural i was FINE!! I wasnt bad after that. So if you just keep in mine that the epidural is going to make it all better you may not mine the needle. Plus its a very slim chance that something will go worng!!!
GOOD LUCK!

It's totally normal for you to feel this way. You are going to have to get over your fear of needles for the deliveriy though because either way they have to give you an IV to give you fluids and other meds. Trust me when your in that much pain you wont hardly feel the epidural while they are giving it to you. Take the meds as soon as they offer, dont wait until it gets unbarable because then they dont work as good. You can also get some pain meds in your IV if you dont feel you can get the epi. There are side effects to EVERYTHING in life, even all natural childbirth so dont worry too much about that. Some people can get headaches from them but its not too common. Just relax and remember, it'll be over before you know it!! Good Luck!!

Talking to your doctor regarding epidural will help ease your concerns. I opted for epidural because my labor pains were terrible. Every woman is different. I know some who didn't even experience any pain. Exercising during pregnancy is also important, like walking or yoga. Don't go crazy, and look forward to the big day!

Don't worry. Most women take the epidural very well. You will be fine. You will not even see the needle and the side effects are very minimal. I have had 2 and no problems.

First of all, you don't even have to see the needle. And once the medicine is in you won't care. I had my 1st 2 children without any kind of pain meds and my 3rd with an epidural and boy I wouldn't recommend anyone try it without one. I didn't even know when to push, my doctor had to tell me each time I had a contraction. The one thing that I didn't like about it was that even 2 hours later I still couldn't feel my legs. Congrats.
