How does someone become an literary agent? What credentials would one need?

mm....THE MOST IMPORTANT WILL BE CONNECTIONS WITH POPULAR AND EFFICIENT PUBLISHERS AND SOME SORT OF A LITERATURE/WRITING/EDITING BACKGROUND. I THINK SOME HANDS ON EXPERIENCE WITH THE PUBLISHING BUSINESS WILL BE AN ASSET.

Schooling, lots of it. And alot of experience. Most literary agents become agents after they were writers.

Sorta like, those you can't do, teach. Not to say this is for all agents, but a fair bit.

you need post secondary education, a degree in literature would help alot.
