Brake lights come on for two reasons:

1. You hand brake is engaged
2. You need to check your brake fluid level.

I would say your reason is option number two.

The light is the brake warning/telltale light.
As well as indicating that the handbrake is applied it also indicates if there are problems with the braking system, such as seriously worn pads (on some cars), low brake fluid level or low brake servo vacuum. Check the brake fluid level, top up with the correct fluid if necessary. If this is not the problem have the car checked out by a garage.

Never drive any car if it is showing a red warning light - they are red to indicate "STOP" - either dangerous to drive, or there is a risk of damage to the engine.

Have the brakes checked. Could be the brake cable is not returning all the way because it is starting to stick or you may have low fluid level in the master cylinder. If it is low fluid level do not add any fluid till you have the brakes checked. This fluid doesn't evaporate on it's own so it's gone somewhere, maybe a leak or maybe the brake pads have worn down.

Hi

This is either telling you that your brake fluid is low or your brake pads are low (if it is fitted with wear sensors).

Check the brake fluid level to start with and if it needs it, top it up. Then move onto the brake pads. If you can see a wire coming from one of the brake pads and it is actually connected to anything then inspect the thickness of the pads at both sides of the vehicle.

I'd check your brake fluid. The handbrake light in my Fiesta kept coming on, and I took it to the garage... Turned out my brake hosing had deteriorated. As long as your brake fluid level isn't low, I wouldn't say it's dangerous but get it to a garage asap.

Good luck

Probably means that:
a) Your brake isn't disengaging properly and/or
b) Your brake needs replacement parts and/or
c) Your sensor isn't working properly.

Whichever way you look at it, your car needs attention. Do it before something goes badly wrong; you don't want your car rolling away down the street one day.

dodgy switch...as long as the brakes are good it should be okay, or it could be a early warning light telling you to change brake pads or brake shoes.

it sounds like your hand break is sticking that's why your light is staying on . some times dirt gets in and it does come off right and that is why your light is on get it checked .

It could be as when you are stationed, and use handbrake you dont know its fully on.... It sounds like you have a problem with a machanic, just take it to a dealer or something like kwik fit and they will be able to sort it.
