How many times are you supposed to feed fish in a day?

What really matters isn't so much how many times a day, but how much overall you feed.

Feed your fish, a little at a time, up to 2-3 minutes and keep track of the amount. They should get that amount 1-2 times a day. If you like to give your fish "treats" or extra feedings, divide the total amount (2x the one feeding) into as many small feedings as you would like.

If the fish are fry, you'll need to feed a little more often.

And remember to vary your fish's diet - a good pellet or flake is good for most feedings, but I add some frozen bloodworms, enriched brine shrimp, daphnia, and some blanched or frozen veggies (romaine lettuce, any dark leeafy greens, sliced zucchini, sliced cucumber, grated carrot, broccoli florets, peas with the skins removed, sliced oranges) for a better balance of nutrition. (Of course, the exact diet will depend on the species of fish you keep!)

Once a day, what the fish will eat in about 4-5 minutes. I recommend even skipping a day during the week-they can go a long time without eating. Feeding more then once a day, only contributes to the eaten food and extra waste(poop) in the bottom of the tank-thus contributing to water quality issues.

Its better to feed your fish just once a day, it is possible to overfeed which can lead to poor water quality if the food is uneaten and left to rot away in your tank.
