I need to take a few trees and branches out.
Is it better to leave a dead branch for the birds to sit on?
Should I burn or make much with the wood?

Thanks

Cut the dead branches out - they are a hazard - can fall onto someone - lawsuit. Cutting out the dead branches allows air and light to circulate through the rest of the tree thus making a healthier, happier tree.

Better to rent a commercial chipper and compost it. Tell the rental outlook the maximum size that will be chipped.

We rented a chipper that did up to 4 inches in diameter. We had a pile of branches and small trees 6 feet high by 40 feet long by 15 feet wide. We then spread the chips below two large maple trees - very nice to walk on.

I would use the wood to burn in my fireplace in the winter. If you don't have a fireplace you could offer the wood to someone who does or just stack it and put up a sign FREE WOOD!
