My future ex-wife had a DUI. She used a lawyer that her family knows. She started having relations with him. Then she left me and wants a divorce. Thats fine with me but she wants me to pay for all of it and I refused. I told her to use her f buddy lawyer that broke up our marriage. She said that doing so would be unethical . Haha that was funny to me. So I guess is there anything I can do to get her to pay for the divorce? And yes the lawyer knew we were married. He was a friend of her Dads. Hes like 30 years older.

She really can't use her lawyer boyfriend as a divorce attorney.
You need our own attorney. (VERY IMPT)

If you would really like to get back you can write a complain to your state's lawyer/bar association and complain about the attorney's behavior (ie. destroying your marriage & dating your wife, his past DUI client) that is totally unethical.

You sound better off w/o that woman!

You really need to get your own lawyer - now. If she's leaving you and filing for divorce, then she needs to pay for her own legal costs, and you need to pay for yours.

Most attorneys will do an "initial consult" for free - but make sure you find out how long that initial consult is (one lawyer tried saying only the first 30 minutes of her time was free when my wife was talking about her grandmother's estate - AFTER talking to her for over an hour! )

You really need representation, or she'll take you to the cleaners!

PS - In some states you might actually be able to report the lawyer for his unethical behavior - sleeping with a client!

If she wants to file for divorce... she'll have to pay for that. If she wants a contested divorce, she'll need a lawyer (someone other than her f buddy), and you will too. So in the end, you'll both have to pay for the divorce... and they can become very expensive if you want to fight over every thing that you both own.

And why does she expect you to pay for it all anyway? Didn't she leave you? No worries... she can't FORCE you to pay for the divorce that she caused and that she wanted.

But, you may want to get yourself a good lawyer in the process.

You are not obligated to pay for her lawyer, especially since she is the one who cheated. You are, however, obligated to pay for your own lawyer unless he/she can get your wife's lawyer to agree to pay for the whole divorce. It doesn't sound very likely though. Check around to find the best divorce lawyer you can find. The better their case history, the more chance they will get you want you want.

Yes, get yourself a lawyer (preferable a hot chick) and tell her in legal terms that you'll grant her wish for a divorce, but because the break-up was initiated by her (as well as the DUI), that you will NOT pay for it. She should pay for her costs.

Also, get yourself your own bank account NOW and start stuffing money into it. Protect your self (financially) you'll need it.

Best of luck....

You don't have to pay for all of it. I would, however, get your own lawyer and start divorce proceedings right away. That will force her to get her own attorney, and you will have the upper hand by starting the proceedings. Who pays for what is all negotiable by the parties. The more difficult she is about negotiations, she's going to rack up more legal fees that she can't afford.

She should contact the Bar Association. If he slept with her while she was his client, that too is unethical. But she will have to pay for her lawyer, but not his.

Sorry man, I got no advice. Best I can say is call up your own lawyer. Preferably a male one, just to avoid unprovoked accusations.
