it will be out of play so one base, just like when a short stop overthrows first and it goes into the stands, dead ball and one base.

well its actually a dead ball (if this ever happened id be shocked)
MLB rules are basically any overthrow from the outfield that goes out of play allows the baserunners to move up 2 bases from their previous base. assuming the runner was on first (or has at least touched first when the throw was made, then he would get two bases from the previous base(1B)
in essence, its a triple because the baserunner would be awarded 3B
if the runner had touched 2B before the ball was thrown, then it would be 2 bases from there, in essence a home rune
you see it all depends where the runner is at the time of the throw
the other answers about only one base would be if that took place from a throw from the infield. the outfield is ALWAYS 2 bases

Guys, I hate to break it to you all, but runners are always awarded TWO bases on balls thrown out of play. And this "one plus one" nonsense is just that. It doesn't matter whether a runner is returning to first or going to second when the ball is thrown out of play -- he gets third base. This is Baseball Rules 101.
Swingman, you're wrong, too, about the one-base for throws out of play by infielders. It's TWO -- ALWAYS.
Now, for the actual question...
It wouldn't be a home run or a double. It would be an error. Each runner would be awarded two bases from the time of the throw.

ANY throw that goes out of play is a two base award. If on the first play by an infielder -- it is from location at time of pitch. EVERY other time it is time of throw.
There is no one base award in baseball unless it has to do with the pitch or a pitcher.

Rick Ankiel from the Atlanta Braves. He performs center field. He replaced right into a glass and replaced into switched over right into a CF by ability of St. Loius. He has a cannon of a arm and would throw immediately to living house and not utilising a bounce, and extraordinarily precise too.

2b if he pickes it up from the ground. if he tries to rob it and falls over the fence even if he caught it its a home run.if he catches it and throws it over its an out and the runners advance 2bases. so it depends.

He would be given the base he was going toward at the time the ball went out of play, plus one additional base. If he was between second and third base it would be scored a triple and he would score on the throwing error by the outfielder.

Good question.
It would be at the discretion of the umpires. Whatever the umps feel the player would have gotten out of the hit. And in 9 out 10 chances it would a double.
Im sure the player would be ejected from the game also.
