It depends on if you want to go broadway or hollywood. Either way you need lots of training to begin with. Acting, singing and dance classes. If you're talking Hollywood, go heavier on the acting. If you're talking Broadway, go heavier on all 3, especially voice because that's what gets you in the door.
You need to build a resume of good credits so get out there and work. Once you get some decent credits you work on getting an agent. When you're ready for that come back and ask and we'll help you out. :-)
good luck

You do have to get an agent - but first you will need to do your homework. Do not ever pay to enter an agency. A reputable agency will have open calls for talent and take 15-20 percent of any job that you do. Also you will need to have good head shots which you will have to pay for and this is not something to go cheap with. Whatever geographical area you are in (ie. Chicago, NY, LA) look up talent agencies and call all of them ask these questions.
1. who do you recomend for head shots (they will usually give you 2 or 3 names)
2. do you have an open call day.
3. do you do promotional work.
Once you get an answer to all of these questions you will need to follow thru. Call all of the head shot photographers. Make an appointment with each and see who you feel most comfortable with (that person will take the best pics because you will be relaxed) YOU DO NOT NEED NUDE OR NEAR NUDE PHOTOS!!!
Then once you have finished photos go to the open call - dress your best and be friendly and personable - remember the receptionist is your best line to meeting an agent so be nice!!
Lastly, if they do promotional work take those jobs - not only will you make some money to support yourself while you are waiting for a job but you will also get to know the agent who will be submitting your photo to casting directors and so on.
Take acting classes, do your homework - find you local SAG (screen actors guild) office find out how to join the union.
GOOD LUCK!

First off, if you call an agent and ask them for advice they will most likely hang up. You need to get professional training. Get good enough to act at the professional level. If you try before that you'll only embarass yourself. Just go to a real acting school and you'll learn all you need to know.

i am sooo pasioit about acting1 i have talk to so maney acters and derectors who visot our school. i think it take being able to say the stupidest things without laughing, and you have to learn a bunch of random things (singing and dancing is important) also any classes for stuff that seems useless. defenitly take shop because then you will be asked to help with costumes and sets and you want to be able to do that. learn to be on time for everything! acters who are late will always be disapointing. i remember a stage maniger was saying that there where two dudes aplying for a role they both where equal but just as one was about to leave he asked him " oh can you you ride a unicycle?" and the gye who could got the part. she said things like that always happen. so if you have the oppertunity to learn anything at all, do it just because you never know when it will come in handy. i hope this helps optherwise email me and i can try to help you find out more cuz im always learning more on it!
