People make mistakes. We're all human. We all tend to do what our friends and co'workers do. I think both these guys, Pete and Berry have learned a lesson along with most of their fellow players. Gambling had nothing to do with Pete's accomplishments and I think Berry would have hit his home runs whether or not he was using steroids. It was a bad fad.Pete was'nt the only one betting . What about the guys he was betting. It was a fad. I think the commission has a handle on it now and the message has been sent. If the truth was known, I'll bet some of those commissioners was betting. OOPS there I go doing something wrong. Pete deserves his accomplishments and I'd be very happy to see him put in the Hall of Fame.

Pete Rose can not be inducted into the Hall of Fame for the simple reason that he bet on baseball. The rule calling for a permanent ban from the sport is the result of the 1919 Black Sox scandal. Rose knew that it was against the rules of Major League Baseball to bet on games, he knew that the punishment was to be declared ineligible, and he knew that the Hall of Fame does not allow an ineligible player to be inducted. Knowing all of this, he chose to take his chances. Bonds. on the other hand, has never been caught doing anything against the rules of baseball. While I have no doubt in my mind that he has taken some sort of performance-enhancing drugs, (possibly steroids, or more likely human growth hormone) he has never tested positive for a banned substance. The record book is not subjective - the man who has hit the most home runs in a career did just that, as did the pitcher with the most strikeouts or the team with the most wins. The Hall of Fame is subjective, it is the opinion of the voters that counts, and statistics are only part of their decision. Keep in mind also that, while Pete Rose is not in the Hall of Fame, his records still stand. Get any Baseball record book, and you will see that he is listed as having the most hits in a career. This will never change, and the records that Bonds sets will always be there as well, regardless of how he accomplished them.

PS - Bonds' first name is BARRY, not BERRY

Pete Rose was banned from the game..PERIOD! they can't very well induct him into the hall of fame. True, his gambling had no effect on his stats, but still it's the principal. The hall of fame is supposed to be for heros of the game. It's hard for him to be remembered as hero for that. Take for example the (Chicago Black Sox and that whole scandal of the 1919 world series. Do you see any of them in the hall of fame? As for Barry Bonds, the guy is a juicer, no doubt. Sooner or later the truth will come out. It always does.

Take away the steroids controversy...Barry has no emotion for baseball. This game is a business to him and is giving him a well undeserved living. He has contempt and disdain for the Hall. He won't donate anything worthwhile to the hall and won't acknowledge the historical value of his accomplishments. He sneers and snubs his nose at the Hall.

It is the Hall of FAME. Barry's fame is his own personal accomplishments. Barry has stated publicly that he cares not and has no interest in the Hall. His wishes should be granted...don't let him in.

Should Rose be put in? As much as I loved his hard nosed playing and managing, his betting is no better than cheating with steroids. No, he shouldn't be in the Hall.

BTW, Rose never bet on his teams to lose...he loved the game to much ALTHOUGH he had a gambling addiction...he always played and managed to win and bet to win, also.

Pete Rose gambled.. that's the WORST thing a basebal player or manager can do..

however players have been getting a "leg up" since the dawn of the game...

its not set in stone that Bonds gets in quite yet... the media does vote on it.. and they did start this drama. No one cared when there were 4 players chasing Maris or when players started dying in spring training or when the bash brothers were winning championships.

You are correct, gambling had nothing to do with Pete's accomplishments but it had everything to do with the integrity of the game itself. The game of baseball nearly went under with Joe Jackson and the Black Sox scandal many years ago and MLB has to ensure that nothing like that will ever happen again. Pete Rose crossed the line and accepted a lifetime ban for his actions, end of story. Bonds is a different story. He has not even been accused of any wrong doing and will be eligible to be voted into the HOF. Two different events and two different outcomes.

Pete Rose got caught cheating and admitted it. Barry Bonds has done neither. Bonds was never proven guilty as Rose was. Therefore, whatever Bonds does will stand.

In the case of Peter Edward Rose, aside from him gambling and all that,He was banned from the game by a commissioner who's now deceased, who allegedly had a lot of stress from dealing with the situation. As great a hitter as Rose was, would it be right to overturn something a now-deceased commissioner approved of? One more thing, does anyone know if his betting contributed to the outcomes of the teams he was on?

Rose' crime, in my mind, was betting on games while he was manager. He had money on the line in situations that he needed to be thinking about pitch counts and long term health of his pitchers. Players' careers were on the line. I could see some leniency regarding betting on his own team as a player, but as a manager it is unforgettable.

Well, I agree with what you are saying 100%, but I don't think it has been proven that Barry Bonds has used steroids. Even though we all know he most likely did. But really what do records mean. He will never make it into the Hall of Fame either in my opinion.

The difference is Bonds has never failed a steroids test! Everyone knows he cheated, but they can't prove it! It was proven that Rose gambled on baseball...
