You will find this is a topic about which die-hard Republicans are openly confused.
Since the philosophy has come to be 'war is good for business and that makes it good for the share-holders' most Republicans admire war profiteers.
They would not even ask how it was possible Humvee got the contract for selling its vehicles to the Army when they had no armor against IED's even thought it was known as we went in that was important. Your run of the mill Republican takes the position that since Humvee makes money off it, then there is no problem.
Hence the lack of accounting, the lack of outrage concerning the lost tens of billions of money given to Halliburton, the lack of clean water for the troops. That's not important. Dick Cheney's stock options: that's what's important.
Harry Truman established a commission against war profiteering... the current Missouri representative is re-establishing this commission. It will be shot down by the Republican minority, because of the kickbacks they all get from the profiteers.
I feel no particular allegience to the system that brings us this horror, and I am utterly ashamed of my fellow Americans for dozing through this god-awful situation...
But then again, if we actually thought about any of that, we might miss out on all the important sports and celebrity crapola that we really should be hympnotized by....

During World War II, then-Sen. Harry Truman started a watchdog committee looking for, and finding, illegal war profiteering. Truman asked hard questions and didn’t let up until he had answers, thereby bringing guilty people and businesses to justice.
Nothing will be done regarding war profiteers as long as Bush is in office. Many are friends of the Administration.

Looking over the responses to your question, WHY am I not surprised that so many do not understand what "war profiteering" actually is.
It is NOT "capitalism."
It is NOT "making a profit."
It is NOT "providing a service."
I have to say that probably 85% of the problems in this country stem from people just NOT KNOWING stuff.
*sigh*

There have always been war profiteers.
I think they're scum, but when many of the people who are profiting are also the people making the political decisions about the war, that goes beyond scum and borders on treason. And yes, I'm talking about Dick Cheney and his pals.

Some will say that those are aristocrates, but they are more like merchant class, which means that in history, we had to kick out the king, then the aristocrates, and now we need to kick the merchant class (international, I mean, not the joebloe working his bread)...
We are poised to do this next!!

Thier proffits should be taxed, obviously, as should the incomes of the American's they employ. Similarly, the profits/income of thier domestic supliers should be taxed and the goods of thier foreign supliers should be subject to federal tarrif. Finally, the yachts and homes they buy with the remainder of thier proffits should be taxed by localities - sales and property taxes, respectively.

Who then should get paid, you, perhaps the French since they now how to deal with the aristocracy? Please, would someone who bashes the "War Profiteers" please explain who will do the work if its not going to be the evil Halliburton.

Per Administration policy, reduce their tax burden.
Seriously though, isn't it obvious that the Invasion of Iraq occurred to benefit certain sectors of the economy, mainly investors in OIL and DEFENSE?
