Hmm. This is tough. I suppose I would stop the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian empire in 1914. This was the spark that started WW I.
If this could have been prevented, maybe WW I wouldn't have happened nor WW II. This could have saved millions of lives.

I would have prevented the Great Schism between the Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodoxy. Although hundreds of separatists and heretics had plagued the Church since its very conception with unorthodox teachings and ideologies, this was the first time that a large geographical area compeletely abandoned the Church. I would change this in hopes that more people would recognize that the Catholic Church is the true and most accurate herald of Christ, Son of God, and that divisive later rebellions such as the Protestant Revolutions of Calvin, Luther, and Henry VIII would not have had to happen. Hopefully, more people than do today would recognize the Catholic Church as being "one, holy, catholic, and apostolic".

Altering anything before I was born in the mid 80s could mean that I do not exist, so I would say April 8th 1994 when Rwandan President Juvenel Habyarimana was assassinated and the genocide began.

The decisions on what to put into the Christian Bible, such as the Gospel of Mary (Magdalene), and what to leave out; such as Revelations.
Ramifications:
Women's role in the world would be entirely different and the practices would be more inner oriented and spiritual. Who can imagine where that would have led. And not so centered on Apocalypse!

I'm with TG on this one. If Mohamed never existed, we'd have avoided countless wars, the entire Middle East Conflict, and the current War on Terror! That's a helluva lot of grief saved just by takin' out one man!

If I could change one event in history, it would have to be my decision to bring pizza for lunch today. I would have rather had a turkey sandwich. I'd be much happier now had I brought a sandwich and the world would be a much happier place.

I am sure many will be unsatisfied with this answer but oh well, I would be in the Hotel Room, after John Bonham passes out, so I could turn him on his side so he doesnt die on his puke. The Ram. would be...... I would be able to hear his drum solo on Mobey Dick live.

I would have taken jesus christ down from the cross.
ramifications:
1. As a kid I would have slept 2-3 extra hours in my bed on Sunday mornings instead of dozing off in church.
2. Millions of human beings would not have died in wars and many thousands of others would not have been burned at the stake or tortured to death.
