Is there anyway to locate women's shelters?

I'm trying to compile a list of Women's Shelters and Relocation Centers to publish online. I will eventually hope to list inmates at these locations as well,

I used to work at a women's shelter, they are very secure/private. You CAN'T list the people who are staying there. I hope you are kidding. . I don't even think you are supposed to list their locations, the women are hiding there for a reason and don't want to be found. You are a jerk.

The nature of shelters is such that the people who are there are hiding from abusive people, they need their privacy ... if you try to create a directory of who is where, you will be aiding and abetting the criminals, and be subject to criminal prosecuriton and law suits ... if any of those people get harmed, killed because you put them in a directory so their enemies can find them, then you can be found to be as guilty as the criminals. You could get the death sentence for that.

Are you familiar with concepts that have been around for a while, known as THE YELLOW PAGES or A SEARCH ENGINE.

I will answer this question on the assumption that you are not familiar with these concepts, perhaps because many people on Yahoo Answers are children still learning how to navigate our world.

The Yellow Pages is a type of Telephone Directory that lists name address phone # by type of institution, so
* if you need a doctor, you can look up what doctors are in your community
* if you want to find a restaurant that serves a particular kind of food, you can look that up
* if you need to find a woman's shelter, you can find list of all that exist in your community & where they are located

If you are too young to have used THE YELLOW PAGES, ask your Mommy or Daddy to show you how to use THE PHONE BOOK, particularly THE YELLOW PAGES.

The phone book is also on-line, for most communities world wide, so that when you use a search engine, one of the resources accessed includes the phone book, but it also includes much more.

Not every organization will have a web site. However, many people before you have dreamed up the importance of doing the kind of thing you are interested in doing, so first you ought to do a review of what others have done already, then you figure out how to do a better job than them.

What Yahoo and Google have in common is they are general search engines for use by general consumers. There are other search engines better suited to other kinds of interests.

If you don't have much experience with the different search engines, I suggest you try them out using similar stuff to search for & compare how the different ones find different stuff & how it is presented to you.

Just go to a search engine and key in something like
* Women's Shelter
* Battered women shelter
You might also include some geography relevant to where you are located, such as a city and state, to link to the ones nearest you

And why do you refer to women who use them as inmates?

The reason these places are hard to find is to keep abusive husbands/boyfriends from finding them. Tell me is it more important to expose a few to endanger the lives of many?
