you have just inserted them wrong. It's ok to practice and chances are you were tense when you were putting it in which is why they didn't go in the right way. Try lubing the tampon with a petroleum jelly when you ae inserting it, the tampon shouldn't hurt going in. Also they make slender tampons for younger girls, and a plastic applicator always helps too. The other reason why they could hurt is that your using an absorbancy that is too high stick to lite and regular. When you say you can put the tampon in all the way are you talking about just the top part? I hope so because thats the only part that needs to go in and even sometimes that doesn't need to go all the way in. Re-read the instructions and practice before scuba diving. You also said that apparently breaking your hymen hurts?? This is an old wives tale! Many girls don't even know how or when they broke their hymens and yours could already be broken especially if you are very active. So go ahead try them again just make sure you are doing everything possible to make your experience with tampons the best!! try www.tampax.com

I wouldn't dive if you can only use pads. For one thing, they will get waterlogged and become pretty uncomfortable.
Tampons can be a bit tricky...at first I had the same problem as you, but I found out that I wasn't inserting them in far enough. The hymen is at the beginning of the vagina anyways, so if you haven't already broken it by trying to insert tampons, then you probably won't by trying to insert them deeper.Try the Jr size tampons; they were the easiest to insert when I was your age.
Hope this helps :)

Try the O.B. tampons. Those don't have an applicator. You actually insert your finger inside the tampon and guide it yourself. It helps to prop one leg on toilet too. (I can't believe I'm doin' Tampon talk!) If you need to, apply a tiny bit of vaseline on tip to help it glide in better. And practice. If it hurts, it's not in far back enough. Don't worry, it won't get stuck up there. Even if the string gets tucked up in there, you can put your fingers up there and pull it out!

Tampons or NO swimming/SCUBA.
There is also something called the moon cup/diva cup you could try.
But do not go in the water without a tampon or moon/diva cup.
Your period does NOT stop or slow down in water, it only looks like it does (it just gets dispersed before you can see it).

Then you should count the days until your next period and avoid going scuba diving those days if you can.
