Well im a baseball player and ive been hit by many pitches and I can tell you first hand it is the wild pitches. If a pitcher is throwing accurate at a hundred yea I know its gonna hurt pretty bad but I know that its not as likely that hes gonna hit me. But if a pitchers throwing 85 and wild its going to scare the hell out of me. 85 miles an hour still hurts the same and its more likely hell probably hit you..

Depends on the quality of the hitter. A good hitter would easily be able to avoid being hit by an 85 mph fastball but even a good hitter has trouble timing a 95+mph fastball. Now if you're talking about a high school level team, I'd say the 85 & wild guy would be scarier (but not by much).

Well, having played baseball and being an avid, die hard baseball fan, I would have to say batting against any pitcher who throws wild at any speed is far more scary than batting against a 100 mph pitcher.
Reason?
It's just plain scary not knowing where a ball is or is not going during any given pitch. This is the exact reason Mitch Williams (Cubs and Phillies) did as good as he did, that is, when he was healthy. His pitching style (side-arm to the point where he was practically throwing underhand) and his release and follow through (almost falling down after every pitch) put fear into almost every batter he faced as not one person, including the catcher, knew where his next pitch was going to end up.

Now honestly, I'd want to have the ball goin 100 and accurate than 85 and wild. At least then you know you have less of a chance of gettin hit. And at 85mph, what's another 15mph pain wise??

I haven't played baseball since I was in elementary school, but I would definitely be a lot less scared of a ball if I knew where it was going. That way, I know I'll be able to hit it, rather than it hitting me in the noggin.

Then again, I don't play baseball anymore because I dislike the idea of hard balls coming at me in excess of 20 mph or so... but that's just me.

100 and accurate. Not only because it is faster, but remember, you are still trying to get a hit. So if you have a guy trying to throw that hard for strikes and still trying to get a hit off of him, that is still pretty tough. Would be more afraid of that.

i'd be more afraid of getting hit by a change up than having a strike at 100 mph.

unless of course he's aiming for my head.
