Well, there is a virus from monkeys with similar strands that could have possibly been developed through monkeys.
Around 1940's there was a man who cam from Africa that had died from a virus. Nobody what cause his death because at the time the AIDS virus has not surfaced yet. Then then froze his body.
In 1980 they thawed him and took samples of the virus. This is when the epidemic broke loose. It was the same AIDS virus strand that came from the man that travelled from Africa.
So to simply put it: The AIDS virus has SIMILAR strands with the virus monkeys have in Africa. Yes, the first noted AIDS casualty was of a man who travelled from AFRICA in the 1940's.

No,There are no monkeys in Israel except in the zoo.As for the aids there are many theories about the where aids came from monkeys to genetic mutation in a virus.

It's thought that AIDS probably came from Africa in the late 50's, and was from a monkey that was butchered for food. A small cut may have been responsible for all that's come since.

Although there are many stories/guesses of how and from where the disease originated? HIV virus is strongly believed to be originated from Africa around 1940.
It is believed that the HIV virus inherits its properties from a virus SIV (Simian Immunodeficiency Virus), which is found in monkeys. The AIDS virus also has developed its own characteristics along with those which it inherits from SIV. The SIV virus has exactly same genetic structure as that of HIV and both the viruses are transmitted same way from one host to another. The SIV virus causes AIDS in monkeys and has exactly same effects on them but it does not show any such effect on humans, whereas HIV causes AIDS in humans but not in monkeys. There are again many interesting stories/guesses/hypothesis as how the HIV virus born from the SIV virus? And how SIV virus got mixed in the human blood?

Why Israel? Is that out of lack of knowledge or just plain anti-Semitism?
AIDS may indeed have come from a monkey, but that was in the African jungle and not in Israel.

I am thinking yes on the monkey and no on the Israel... I don't think they have monkeys in Israel. Africa is where is came from, I think. Or God, you know, as a way to punish gays. (j/k)

there are no jungles in israel. Monkeys live in heavily wooded areas and isreal is one big sandstone. I also heard it came from a gorilla type in Africa....now how the virus was transferred to humans?, well thats a whole can o' worms I dont wanna open.

I think you're right about the monkey...but I think the monkey was from Africa, not Israel.

There is a very similar stain in monkeys in Central Africa, and there is genetic evidence it stared there. It is believed that it spread to the west by a gay guy from Canada who was a flight attendant.
