theres two levels of this.
yes, everyone is controlled by society because you tend to migrate and settle down where you feel comfortable and fit in with.
no, on the larger scale because most of society says nudism isnt a lifestyle that is prefered but yet i still am a nudist. the muslims who come to america are still allowed to wear their turbans on the job because its their right.
so i say for majority then yes
personally no, it takes a strong individual to live his life out of the norm of society. i constantly try to bend rules and push the limits to show that society shouldnt rule my life and that we all came from the same seed so what makes you better than me.

Of course, an answer to the question can not be a generalization. Society exerts a wide and varying range of control over us. The interesting thing is that many, maybe most, of us have bought into that control. We help society enforce the rules by condemning those who do not conform. The problem is us. There is no them.

YES, I believe that the majority of individuals are influenced and even controlled by what society does, what society says is in, what society says looks good, what society says is the way to live your life and so on.
Many don't realize it, but most live their lives by what society says you must do inorder to succeed in a world where love, peace, nor fairness exists. It is a ME society, and a dog eat dog world.

When you watch the commercials on tv that make you think you won't be happy unless you buy that product. The good way of being controlled by society is the laws. Laws can protect us. They don't always obviously but are there to protect.

I think we're steered by what our society believes in right/wrong or just normal/abnormal. But I think "control" is a little overboard. Afterall, we're in America, land of the free, home of the brave. If you don't like that, get the hell out! Terrorist!
(That last part was to make a point, some of you will understand, most of you won't, it's okay.)

yes sure but the level of control varies with the culture too. forexample eastern cultures are stricter than western cultures so you find people in the east are more controlled by their society

yes...i think that people pay to much attention to the media and what it says...they forget it is just as controlled as we are...and I think at some point people forget they have instincts and emotions and forsake them and don't even realize it...they are controlled and afraid of ever one else and their own beliefs......I don't care about what anyone says...I feel confident in what I beleive and am not quick to judge it...though I do think there needs to be a balance between judging and confidence.....;)

Only if you let yourself be roped into it. I choose to drop out of society and live simply. I never buy into the hype

This is not a guess. I am certain of it. But, we are controlled by concent. Not all for the good or bad. We learn as we go along.
