More than likely, it is a simple muscle strain. It is VERY difficult to dislocate a rib, and unless you have underlying pathology (bone cancer, etc.), what you did was not enough to break it. I would try moist heat and alternate ibuprofen and acetaminophen every four hours. If you don't see a marked improvement within two days, I would see a doctor.

Best of luck!

Good advice so far. I suggest a warm bath or hot tub too. It's important to concentrate on doing some deep abdominal breathing to keep the O2 and nutrients going to the injured area. It may be a little painful, but it will help more than hurt and the tendency with a rib injury is to limit breathing which is counter productive. Ribs are tough and time is probably your best friend. I agree with giving it a week or so. Two days is too little time to give it a chance. good luck

Sounds like just a minor pull of the intra-costal muscles between the ribs.

Lay and on your back put a fist in one hand and gently move your arms, hands clasped together behind your back, arching you backing slightly as you do. This should help stretch out the pull.

You can take motrin for the discomfort. See your doctor if it is still painful after a week.
