I've had long hair most of my life, and now that I'm getting older it's getting on my nerves. It's just below my waist, takes forever to dry, tangles like crazy (because it's naturally wavy) and is a general pain in the derrière. Anyway, my husband who I love very much won't let me cut it. Everyone says it's my hair and I can do what I want with it, but my husband always does things to please me, so I feel I should do the same. He loves my hair and I don't want something silly (like cutting my hair) causing tension in our relationship. He's told me repeatedly that if I cut it, he'll be crushed and upset. There has to be an answer... I just don't know what it is. Any suggestions?

Tell your husband you are going to have it cut and donate it to lovelocks or someone(hair for wigs for cancer and burn victims), and that you will then let it grow back out.
Once it's cut, he may like it better-- if not then you decide

Well, it would be nice of you to leave it in respect for him...but at the same time, it's unfair to you that he says he'll be crushed and upset if you cut it. Like everyone says, it's your hair. Maybe you should talk to him about possibly cutting it a certain length...so it's still somewhat long, but not as long as it is now. I believe you should cut it if you want to an if it's on your nerves. He'll get over it I'm sure...it will always grow back, right?

if he gets upset about HAIR, i'd hate to see how he does with REAL problems! my god.

maybe you could opt for several inches off, instead of a couple feet? maybe a stylist could give you suggestions for a longer cut, perhaps with layers.

we don't want your husband sulking in the corner and having a mental breakdown over some hair... do we?

yeeks.

its very nice that you consider his feelings.

if you go and cut your hair, he will be angry.

but maybe if you inform him first that you are cutting it, and its not to upset him, but that its a pain, maybe it'll lessen the blow.

A number one is that its your hair, you are the person who takes care of it, and if its too long for you, its too long for you. Tell him that if he wants to shampoo it, conditioner it, dry it, style it, then he can have it, but until that happens you're done with it.

I recently went from very long hair to above the shoulder length hair. Its super curly now and i LOVE it... its easy to take care if, it NEVER tangles, and its so easy to style. My boyfriend was very attached to my long tresses too, but he lieks the new style just as much!
