Yes, I agree. It's the symbol of a country, not of a religion.

I personally think that Texas has some very important issues which have nothing to do with flag burning, that it should be dealing with. I.E. illegal aliens.
It is a FLAG, a SYMBOL of another country, not anything more than that. Now, who ever burned SOMEONE else's flag should be charged with destruction of property, and that is all, because that is all that actually happened. I agree with the other poster who said that "hate crimes" = undefinable PC nonsense.

No, I don't agree. A hate crime is one based on prejudice, racism, bigotry - not simply religious intolerance.
Even still, the Israeli flag's main icon is the Star of David, and it was flown in front of a place of worship.. doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out.

A flag is a piece of cloth; burning a flag--any flag--is never a hate crime.
At worst, it is a waste of the money used to purchase the flag.

Burning any flag hurts nobody, except somebody's feelings. If hurting somebody's feelings is a crime, we are in serious trouble.

burning any flag is a political statement and is meant as an insult so hate is a prime factor in the act.

you can go to jail for it. You can be kicked out of work for it. and it depends on the spirit or perception of the Intent! A guy could lose his Job for staring at a girls boobs because the perception is considered harrassment

I agree. The Star of David is a very recent symbol in Jewish hostroy. I don't mind seeing that flag burnt.

I think burning any country's flag is a hate crime--it shows your contempt, disrespect, and in it's destructiveness comes close to saying you would kill the people if you could.

Why would it be a religious symbol? Not everyone in Israel is jewish, just like not everyone in the US is a Christian.
