How can any of you actually SUPPORT abortion? That is one thing I absolutely do not understand. Obama has now wanting Abortion to be put on Healthcare! So what? Now a person walking into a clinic who is puking can also walk in and get an abortion! I mean, I understand that some of you don't believe the child is "alive" until a certain stage, but does it matter? Doesn't it have the potential for life? Even if you kill something that you don't think is "alive", won't it still be "alive" someday? So isn't it the same thing?
Adoption for newborn babies is not nearly as hard as these people seem to think. And even if that doesn't work out, isn't a miserable life in foster care better than no life? They at least have the chance to decide!

Are there any of you out there who seriously agree with abortion? The only time I think its right is if the mother is in grave danger or if something seriously wrong will be wrong with the baby.

Yes I know people are still going to do it. But just because men are still going to beat their wives, should we just make it legal?

For the second poster, yes you will go through 9 months of pain, pressure, and embarrasement if you let the baby live. Poor you. Well what about the baby? Like I said before, even if you don't think its "alive", won't it one day be alive? Shouldn't the baby have the choice to live? It's not the baby's fault that the guy raped you, so why take it out on the baby?

And as for the fourth poster, "Tell that to the 8-year old girl who has to look foreward to her foster father sneaking into her room every night" . Yes, there will be cases like that. And in those cases, that child can make the choice of whether she wants her life to go on or not. It might be a terrible choice to face, BUT SHE CAN MAKE THAT CHOICE!

No I am not advocating sucide, so maybe I worded it wrong. Yes, it is terrible for an 8-year old girl in the foster system to get raped by her foster father. And yes that happens occassionally. That part of her life would suck, but would her entire life suck? It would be terrible for her to go through that, but it won't always be like that. Foster kids get moved around until they turn 18 and then they're released and have a chance for happiness. Even after all that hardship, doesn't she still get a chance for happiness. The chance to find a guy and fall in love with? Even though a portion of her life sucked, there will be a chance for happiness. No matter what, shouldn't she be given that chance? YES!!

By aborting you take away all chances at that child ever getting the chance to be happy, to be sad, to be loved....you take that away from them? That is wrong!

I'm not a liberal; I disagree with party politics. But this whole issue just depends on how you look at it. If I get pregnant, then I have a zygote in MY uterus. This is my zygote; it is part of MY body. It should be my choice if I don't want to have to go through 9 months of pregnancy ESPECIALLY if I were raped.

Also, what do you think is going to happen if abortion is banned? You think all the people who don't want children/pregnancy are just going to have them anyway? No, they're going to be getting their fetuses cut out with hangers in back alleys.

Edit:

And question asker, your analogy is kind of bad. Yes, men beat their wives, but making wife-beating illegal doesn't make the situation MORE dangerous for the wives. Making abortion illegal endangers the lives of the women.

You have little sympathy if you can let someone who already had to go through the pain of being raped also go through nine months of humiliation and pressure. The thing is a zygote; a joined egg and sperm. Like another person said, being upset over the loss of a zygote is like being upset over the loss of a sperm, so why don't we just make condoms illegal?

Well, abortion should remain legal. I understand the right to life and all of that, however do you see the poor quality of life to the child. Let us say you know a poor woman who is barely able to get by but is trying, she gets raped or some other unnecessary event happened that she didn't want to happen. Then is it better to make the child starve to death or for the mother to starve for the child and yet it makes no difference. The issue with adoption you are right is not that bad, but then you have health issues that need to be addressed. Are you going to let these women live in an institution in order to make sure the child is healthy? It is the issue of responsibility if women and men can not be held responsible then the issue is lost.

bottom line.. it comes down to what you can legislate someone to do with their body and what you can't. You can't legislate a medical procedure. In the case of spousal abuse it isn't what they are doing to their own body.. it is what they are doing to someone else's. you may argue that drug use then should be legal.. well many people would argue that you would be right.. others would say that drug use effects other people not just the user. You may argue that the child also receives the procedure so it's not just the woman's body that receives it. well, this is where it gets gray.. and that's what makes this so difficult. is it still a part of the woman's body? is it a life of its' own? Both sides have very good arguments on this.. and both are right... well at least neither side is wrong.... so I decided that it should be a personal choice. I wouldn't choose it.. but I don't feel I have the right to say that someone else shouldn't.

You're confusing "alive" with sentient. A rose is alive.

It may have the potential for life. But it's not alive yet. A man's semen has the same POTENTIAL for life. Should masturbation and birth control be punishable offenses?

Adoption is a logistic nightmare in this country. Reams of paperwork and the woman can change her mind at the last minute. Or the dad can pop out of nowhere AFTER the steps have been taken to notify him with no response and fight for custody.

Why do you think wannabe parents are RUNNING abroad

Quote: And even if that doesn't work out, isn't a miserable life in foster care better than no life?

Tell that to the 8 year-old girl who gets to look forward to foster daddy creeping into her room tonight.

I "seriously agree with it." Would I ever have one if I were somehow in that position? I dunno. But that decision is between her, her doc and her God (if she has one) Her choice is NONE of my business.

EDIT:

"Yes, there will be cases like that. And in those cases, that child can make the choice of whether she wants her life to go on or not. It might be a terrible choice to face, BUT SHE CAN MAKE THAT CHOICE!"

Wait...wait...you're ACTUALLY advocating that an 8 year old can CHOOSE suicide????? Really????

Or that she should HAVE to? Living in hell (or suiciding and GOING to hell depending on your beliefs) is better than her mother making a choice that she just can't have her.

And you think WE are irrational?

Seek help.

You first, Denny. You know, for someone who rails aginst "wasting time" you sure burn a lot of it yourself.

Can't read or tell time, either I see. No shock. Judging from your other posts, quite the troll, too.

As a liberal I must admit that it is equally difficult for me to understand what I perceive as hypocritical views on the conservative side. I believe the only time abortion should be allowed is if it involves rape, incest or the life of the mother. It should not be used as birth control. So, we agree somewhat on this issue, it is just that you choose to label yourself one way, while I choose another.
The thing that baffles me is the conservative view with the use of embryonic stem cells in research. These stem cells have shown to be superior for research purposes, yet conservatives would rather see them destroyed instead of using them where they could do great good for those actually living. And to top it off, they are destroyed if they go unused and the "owners" of them no longer want or need them. If conservatives are as into the whole life begins at conception thing, wouldn't you think that Conservatives would want these unused embryos stored indefinitely? And if they went that route, how would this be accomplished?
If it is alive, as a normal embryo is alive in the womb, how do Conservatives justify their destruction of them instead of using them in research, where they have the potential for discovering cures and extending the lives of the living?
So, there is plenty of hypocrisy to go around.

Don't let anyone fool you about this issue. A vast majority of abortions are preformed as a matter of convenience. Its like having a pair of shoes, you want to have the choice to buy them and to throw them away don't you? Well for abortion to work you have to equate a baby to just a pair of shoes, an accessory. Not alive! I share your view about if the mothers life is in danger. To me that should only be left to the mother.

My position on abortion is that if you make it illegal, it will go on just the same, in the offices of Doctors who disagree with the law, or in back alleys. You cannot stop it. So I concentrate on other issues.

Tell us: Would you be content with a totally unenforceable, "feel good" law that merely expressed your view that "Abortion is WRONG!" --?

I want to add something to the abortion laws:

Post-birth abortion.
My three kids are now teenagers and they are driving me nuts. I should have the right to state my mistake in them not being aborted before they were born... maybe up until age 16 or something.
