is there a difference between fenders for a yacht and a motor boat?
Have checked out some for sale on e-bay and they say are described as boat yacht & I don't know if this is refering to a catagory or it's intended use.
Hope you can help - thanks!

thanks for info so far...
the boat is 28mts and the fenders are 24" long & 8" dia - the sausage shape!
Oh yes they say they come flat packed and are inflatable. Are these the best type to buy, or do they also come already inflated?
THANKS VERY MUCH FOR INFO SO FAR GUYS!

A fender is a fender, yachts use rather large one to fit the ship size, and they do make different sizes for different size boats as well. One thing to keep in mind, is there size and where you have space to store them, unless you mount them on Bow Rails or something.

Got to bear in mind the waters you will be cruising. I had a narrowboat on the canals where the banks came approx. half way up to the gunnels, plus narrow boats usually have nearly straight side, so I had the rope fenders hanging from the gunnels in place all the time.
Should you be cruising tidal waters you could be mooring against quaysides and the shape of the hull of a yacht or motor boat is more tapered from the gunnels to the keel. Hence the plastic ball or pear shape types would I think be more suitable.( I used to lose these types for fun in the locks, when I forgot to pull them inboards)
Hope this helps, happy cruising.

a yacht is any type of boat just for the clarification. it defiantly depends on the size boat. you should check out your local boating store (i.e. West Marine, Boaters World) and ask them there, so then you can get one on ebay more easily without guessing.

It really does depend on your craft and where you intend to use it. Steel craft on inland waters use none. large wooden boats (eg fishing) in rough waters use old tyres. Your best bet is to go to your chandler and get their recommendation. I would expect the more expensive your boat the more expensive the fenders should be.

The major difference is size. They do come inflated. Taylormade are replaceable if damaged, free.
