Diversity is good when EVERYONE participates.
The problem you're eluding to is when only certain groups participate and others do not.
Such as the African-Americans who tend to segragate themselves from mainstream society with their clothing, music, those whom they associate with...etc.
When race, religion, culture, age, gender, physical ability ACTUALLY is a non-issue, then diversity can be a good thing for everyone.
But it has to be EVERYONE...not just a select few.

Some of the most counter-productive teams I have been on were those that were NOT diverse, where everyone thought and reacted the same way. In this example, which happens all the time for me, diversity is definitely a strength.
Overall, of course, supporting diversity recognizes the contributions of each person as an individual, rather than a stereotype. And that is always a good thing.

Diversity is good because I like a lot of choices in donuts to choose from. Some times I feel like I am in the mood for coconut/chocolate, other times my good ol' glazed will do. Yes, some times these donuts start hanging out with "their own kind", but hell, when all is said and done, they're all going to melt in my stomach's acid and come out the same way. So my point is - deep down, we all started out the same, and will end up the same. Lets eat a donut.

Diversity can only lead to division if people are unable to embrace and accept diversity. Everyone is different and there's nothing we can do about it, but to either accept or look down upon it. In my opinion, diversity just can't be a bad thing. Without diversity, we would all be the same.

diversity leads to division because some people cannot accept it and confuse uniformity with unity.
diversity allows people and a society to deal better with hardships. if everyone thinks the same way, they wont be able to improvise and move humanity forward. it's the people who stood up to the mob who wanted them to conform that made advances for everyone. for example... diversity of tought... had galilleo not stood by his scientific convictions, we'd still be convinced that the sun moves around the earth.
if everyone was the same you wouldnt recognize each other because we'd all look the same. if there wasnt diversity in food you'd be eating the same boring food every day.
and so on

Diversity sounds like an honorable quest, but it isn't. People have the right to form their associations freely, as granted by the first amendment. Bigotry is a moral crime. It should not be against the law, rather people with common decency should never do business with others that are bigots.
Imagine if the gvmt set quotas to tell us who we should hire. Would 'The Advocate' be breaking the law because they don't hire enough straight people?

I personally find it very interesting to learn about other people and cultures. Not because I have to, because I want to. The world is such an incredible place with so much to explore and discover. Why shouldn't I want to learn as much as I can about its inhabitants? I will inevitably enrich myself and become more knowledgeable. I read so many answers from people at Y.A and it is quite evident that many don't have a clue about other groups. I don't ever want be "that person"

I'm tired of diversity. I find myself wanting to segregate myself from others that aren't like me after years of being tolerant. The fact is, everyone is different and I'm tired of trying to find "common ground" with somebody just because society says I should.

When I teach my multicultural curriculum, I point out things that different cultures have in common.
