I was looking at one of my daughters fashion mags last week and noticed something about the model that left me wondering. They are all so skinny. Don't look like most avg. young adults. Also, not one of them had what I consider shaply legs, again toothpick skinny. Could someone tell me why this is considered the norm for the fashion industry. My daughter is a very healthy, athletic 26 year old woman who is 5'4" and, I would guess, weighs around 140lbs. and by no means is she fat. OK ladies (young or old) help an old man understand. They all look terrible to me and even at 60 I still appreicate a good looking woman, but like some meat on their bones. and most of my buddies feel the same. way

I agree with you completely! Models and movie stars look unhealthy! Thin is one thing but skinny is awful! We need to give our daughters the self esteem they need to enjoy their curves. My daughter is nearly 12 and just starting to develop a waist and shapely legs... I tell her daily how soft and pretty she is! She is proud of how she looks, unlike some of her friends who want to diet at 11 because they look too fat! So sad!

Women were created to bring life into this world and to nurture children. We need some curves and padding to do this and I think that men appreciate that much more than skin and bones!

Great question!

Then if "thin is in" and the anorexic look gets the fashion trends than I applaud Lane Bryant for using plus size models to wear their fashions.. I like that the models aren't super skinny and you can tell what the clothes look like on a "real woman's body." I'm a woman of substance and "padding".. I've had 2 children and am just prone to being heavy.. I was however thin in my teens/early 20's... and didn't pay much attention to the fashion magazines my older sister's were gettting... My husband has been with me through "thick and thin" and I dated more when I wasn't super skinny... So, who know's what designers are thinking and why they aren't tapping into the plus size market.. ?

Robert S is right. When Cindy Crawford was in the modeling industry, everybody looked at HER and not the clothes she was modeling. I agree that the models today are TOO thin, but clothes just look better on women who are built like mannequins, tall and thin. It's what you can expect in a fashion magazine where there is more emphasis on the clothes, not the women.

Most normal people, male and female, agree with you. None of us are sure why the fashion industry thinks anorexia is a hot look (other than their ridiculous claim about how skinny looks better on the catwalk) , and young women don't need to think it's okay or normal for obvious reasons.

I agree 100 percent with you. I think besides just looking unhealthy, there is no uniqeness to them. Its like they clone these size zero girls. I hope this all changes before my 1 year old looks at that stuff. I am glad to hear more men still like "average sized" women. Maybe they use this size girl to cut down spending on clothes for modeling, so they dont have to use so much fabric.

I totally agree. I'm a twin, and my sister is model-anorexic looking. I'm the same petite body type, but I have an athletic build. I always got more compliments when we'd go out together.

i admire seventeen and youngster style. Theres a great style of solid stuff on elegance, trend and song, yet there isnt a great style of gossip. there's a featured motion picture star, yet you will ought to get something like Us or human beings mag for gossip.

I absolutely agree with you! My dream is to become a model, but I won't if I have to look like that. One of the best gifts women have are their curves. We should appreciate them more, right?

I agree with you,it doesnt look attractive at all! they're bringing in rules to prevent underweight models from modelling etc...so hopefully that will help!
