I recently purchased a new home from which my grandma lived in. She sold it to my husband and I, and it is INFESTED with roaches. The thing is, she has had roaches for the 15 years she's been there because she never CLEANED. YUCK! She let us keep this really nice dining room set and when we took it apart to movie it because we were are getting hardwood floors, it was full of roach eggs and roaches! I want to know some suggestions on getting rid of them. I want them OUT before I move in. My cousin does pest control so he's going to fumigate, but other than that I want to try other things. Thanks for any replies!

DO NOT STEP ON A ROACH!
If it is carrying eggs you run the risk of getting them on your shoes and taking them everywhere you go. Plus, if the eggs are ready to hatch, you just freed them. Try to grab them in a paper towel or some other method.
I had a roach issue with the house we recently bought. Our got worse when we cleaned up the yard. They had made beds under all the leaves and went everywhere when we raked. I saw several in the house and call my exterminator who sprayed around the outside of my house again. Most of what I see now is the dead ones in my garage. I still see one or two a week. GROSS!

i would set off raid bombs or something like that along with the pest control. its hard to get rid of roaches, especially when they are inside the walls. we moved into an apt 5 yrs ago, that was infested with roaches because our neighbors were old and didnt have anyone checking on them. finally they were put in a home, so they would receive good care. the landlord had pest control come out, a few times before the roaches were gone. when the house gets fumigated, they will come out like crazy.

Two things;

One - 'Bengal' roach spray is excellent. I used it one time (two cans) in a roach infested house and did not see another roach for over two years - when the nasty neighbors finally moved.

Second - 'roach Pruf' powder. Simply squeeze the plastic container so that the product goes under everything...like hot water heater, baseboards, etc. I used this when I couldn't find the Bengal spray and it was very effective.

The beauty of these products is they are effective and you don't have to mix up anything!

Hope this helps...and enjoy your 'new' home. :)

If you haven't moved in yet, this is a great time to nuke the roaches. Leave the dining set in there when it is bug bombed. You should probably have this one handled by a professional who will come back for free if there is a recurrence.
Good luck!

Roaches:
They can be captured by putting some peanut butter into a mayonnaise sized jar and then roll a piece of paper into a funnel and tape it inside of the jar. The roaches go in but can't get back out. When it gets full, tuck the paper inside and throw the whole thing in the trash.

To keep roaches out, just keep clean.

With that big of a roach problem, a professional exterminator is your best bet. Bug bombs will kill some but you will still have plenty of them left.

Good luck (oh and try to get some kind of warranty from the exterminator in case the problem reoccurs soon).
