Generally doctors recommend that you wait two cycles to be sure that all is okay with your body and that you can handle the physical aspects of getting pregnant again.

However, a few tips from someone who has recently suffered a third miscarriage:

-- Be sure that you are emotionally ready to handle another pregnancy. I know the urgency you feel to try and get pregnant again but after suffering a lose another pregnancy can be filled with worry. That will probably never fully go away but be sure that you can confront the issues that come up with even a normal pregnancy before you try again.

-- Although generally there is not much testing done after a woman suffers one miscarriage, do what you can to inform yourself as to what might have occurred and what may be done to try to prevent a miscarriage in the future.

While there are no absolutes -- the cause of more than 50 percent of early miscarriages is never known -- I feel it is much better to try and learn the cause before you suffer many of these experiences. After my first, we just chalked it up to nature and that fact that a large majority of women will have this happen to them in their reproductive years (we also hadn't been trying to get pregnant and thought that perhaps some of my behavior -- I was on antibiotics -- prior to learning I was pregnant may have contributed to it going poorly).

When I miscarried a second time (a year later), I had the whole run-down of tests done and mostly things seemed okay. One blood test was borderline for a clotting disorder but my doctor didn't seem concerned and said to us, "Go ahead and get pregnant and then once you are we'll retest you." So we did and I got pregnant after two normal cycles and immediately called my doctor who then took two weeks monitoring the pregnancy, holding off on testing, and in the meantime I miscarried. When I asked if it could have been related to my earlier test, he said it could but that he didn't treat me for it because it is not protocol to treat until the pregnancy is established. Well, we don't know for sure if this contributed to my miscarriage but it should be known that unless women push for it, many doctors take the wait and see approach.

It's now been recommended to me by another doctor that I take daily progesterone and an aspirin (for clotting) as soon as I ovulate each month so that the pregnancy can start off right if these were my problems.

Anyway, this is a lot more information than I think you were looking for but having just been through this experience and finding very little info out there myself, I wanted to share it.

I wish you the best of luck in trying to have a baby.

I got pregnant last June. I was SO excited. Two weeks after I found out, I had a miscarriage and I was devestated!! My doctor told me to wait two periods, and then i would be safe to try again. So I did. And in September, I found out I was pregnant again. We were excited, but nervous. One week later, I miscarried again. My heart was broken. Everyone said I should have given my body more time to heal. So thats what I did, I waited, and I just found a couple weeks ago that I am now a month pregnant, and after two blood tests, my doctors say I am healthy and everything is looking good! So even though doctors say two cycles, I reccomend giving your body a little more time to heal.

I got pregnant 6 months after a miscarriage. I do not know about one cycle, but it seems possible.

It is possible to get pregnant during your next normal cycle, but doctors suggest you wait at least 3 cycles to be sure there are no left over products of conception and that your cycles are normal and not affected by remaining hormones.
