I have often wondered why they call a bathroom on a ship the head?

I have wondered that too, but when I went on a cruise a couple of years ago, I just went with the lingo.

Not just on a ship, everywhere. It's just military lingo

The Army does not call it a head, maybe it has to do with all the"seamen"?
