Your "poem" lacks structure, imagery, rhyme, or any of the poetic conventions. It's prose. To address the issues it raises, I'd say...
Anyone can write BAD poetry. Creating good poetry is a craft that takes development. There's a lot more to it than just scribbling down lines that aren't related to each other (though I agree you can find too much poetry like that around).
Very few people get paid to write poems. Like all arts, it's something you do for yourself, becuase you love it. I'd say poetry is not (nor was it ever, probably) a career in itself. Most poets do something else, too.
Writing poetry has nothing to do with the economy. It has to do with art and beauty.
Your frequent refrences to "today's economy" show a complete misunderstanding of what poetry is, and what it's about -- not everything has value that you measure in dollars. It also indicates an unfortunate lack of appreciation for "the finer things in life," which are what you're supposed to be working for, BTW. Appreciating poetry takes a level of discernment that goes way beyond that of an economy-focused wage-slave.

You want the truth? First of all you are so shallow. A poet has great insight into their most inner being. They feel the deepest pain of others. Given a pen and paper they can paint a master piece with words. They are able to see with their emotions, feel with their eyes and hear with their heart. In their deepest thoughts they can see far beyond what their naked eyes show them. Looking into a rainbow and feeling the colors hitting them in the chest as the mist and sunshine turn their paper into a painted canvas covered with words instead of paint. You, my friend have no idea what you are talking about. I'm taking the time to tell you this so that you might experience life beyond your shallow mind that is skimming across the road of life with nothing on but your jocky shorts.

lol, your funny. I don't think anyone should give up the day job! And i do think just about anyone can write a poem, but whether it is good or not does make a difference. Just like, i oil paint, and so do a lot of other people. But to make a decent living off it isn't likely. For most of us it is a hobby.

i really thought when i read the opening that you were actually going to pull it off... like you were just going to ream poets with such a flawless grace...
but you just wrote something that wasn't worth reading... unless you are discouraging us from writing poetry so that you have less of an edge in todays economy... in which case I guess you are pretty unselfish...
...but if I had to guess, I would say you like poetry and you are just testing the waters before you give it a shot... like you want us to convince you... well come on in the water's great!

your poem sucks! not everyone can write poetry and u did just prove it. and its not a waste of time but answering this question was. also writing what you feel is better than sitting infront of the tv for hours... people who write also have a open mind unlike you.
