i was wondering how far along you have so be before they will not try to stop your labor? I know if someone goes into labor at like 24 weeks they will try to stop it but what if you are 33 weeks or 36 weeks? after what point do they just let nature take it's course?

My mother is a labor/delivery nurse and she's told me that they don't stop labor after 36 weeks. My doctor has also said the same thing. But I think the baby will still be in the NICU at 36 considering 37 is considered full term.

I was put on medication to prevent contractions for a couple of weeks (even though it didn't work). The doctor said I could quit taking it at 35 weeks because she would not stop my labor anymore which was good because I went in to labor at 36 weeks.

From googling it...it all depends on the reason you go into pre-term labor. A fetus may be able to survive out of the womb at about 28 weeks, of course with a lot of TLC. If there is nothing seriously wrong then the doctors will just let labor happen at around 8 months.

They will try to stop it before 36 weeks, unless your water is broke, then they have no choice but to let your baby be born. I know I gave birth at 33 weeks, 34 weeks, and twice at 36. The 33 and 34 Weeks, my water had broke.

they like you to be as close to term as possible, at 36-37 weeks they will let you deliver if you go into labor, but 33 weeks is still very early.

After 36wks (37 ideally) you are considered full term and they will not try and stop the labour. If they are in doubt at all they would give you a steroid injection to help speed the maturity of the babies lungs, which is usually the biggest worry.

39wks and they will let you go they like the baby to be safe but they have let women at 37wks go ahead.... but most the time they encourage 39wks + b/c duedates arent always correct and they dont want to deliver a ton of babies that dont have good lungs.

i know my doctor said they'd stop me if i came in any earlier then 39wks b/c they think my duedate is off a bit.

yea women at 36-37wks (in labor) usually get a shot to mature the babys lungs faster... just dpeends on the doctor and your pregnancy really. everyones different

37 weeks but if they know your baby will be fine and healthy under 37 weeks, i'm sure they'll let you go in labor and if there was something wrong with you or the baby then they have to take the baby out ASAP!
