I am moving in a few months and I will be needing a change of address. I am suppose to be getting a very important piece of mail around the time I move and I don't want it getting sent to my old apartment if I have already moved. Would it be better to just get my mail held for a few weeks and then after I recieve my important piece of mail then do a change of address??? I really don't want the USPS to screw up anything!

The USPS is pretty good about forwarding mail, but it CAN slow things down significantly for you receiving it. Holding the mail, however, does have a time limit on it -- and I don't know that you could pick it up periodically in between. So, there may not be a "best" solution on this one.

you could ask the post office to hold the mail for you if you are sure that the mail will be arriving during that time. This would be the safest way because you are assure that your mail will be in good hands.Do note that the post office will only hold your mail for 3 to 30 days after which they would deliver it to your address.
the process of changing your address can take a few days if not weeks before your mail can be forwarded, if that happens your mail may end up where it was not intended to be
otherwise the post office does a good job as far as forwarding or holding your mail
good luck

I've moved twice, and they haven't messed up. Go to the local post office, and fill out the moving form, and have your stuff forwarded to your new address.
