He was a better candidate than Bush in 2000. But the Bush campaign used the ugliest, sleaziest, Rovian tactics against him in South Carolina to ruin him. Despite this, McCain swallowed his pride and embraced Bush in 2004, hoping his undeserved loyalty would pay off for 2008. But that very embrace of Bush and his misbegotten war has played a large part in ruining him again.

It's especially sad, sicne he was a POW in Vietnam-- another futile cause that we stayed with far too long. Now he's endorsing us staying too long in Iraq, not having learned the lessons of Vietnam.

Yes, I liked him in 2000, way more than Bush, but he got destroyed. He never recovered, and kept changing his views to please groups of people. He then destroyed himself politically, as he is not the same anymore.

I stopped feeling sorry for McCain after he was released from the Jane Fonda Hanoi Hilton.

He is a politician. He needs to take responsibilty for supporting things like the Leave No Illegal Alien Behind Amnesty Act even though his state has a higher percentage of illegal aliens than any other state and an increase in troops in Iraq.

I felt bad for him in 2000. He got a raw deal.

But since he's spent the last 8 years warmongering and he seems to have gotten pretty comfortable with Bush's d*** up his a**, I find I've lost all respect for him.

Yes. I thought for sure he would of been the 2000 Rep. nomination. I do think he's one of the better Republicans out there and was hi-jacked by Bush.

I don't feel very sorry for him. He made his choices and now he has to suffer the consequences. And its not just Iraq. His attempt to push through a very unpopular immigration bill hurt him badly.

I feel about as bad for him as I felt for Kerry. If they cant beat bush out then oh well they aren't all that hot anyway.
