Took the morning after pill 5 days after unprotected sex. 2 weeks on, my period has came 4 days early but is much more painful. I had horrible cramps and now a large mass of what looks like a blood clot with something attached to it has came out. THe cramps are still going on. Is it possible that i was pregnant and the pill has caused an abortion.??

The morning after pill works as follows; It is reccomended to be taken no more than the day following intercourse. I think we are all aware as to where babies come from so I'll skip what happens there. The morning after pill works by making the body have a menstraul cycle, which is the bodies way of getting rid of the womb lining and unfertilized egg each month and prepares for a new cycle. If a woman was to take a morning after pill though she was pregnant and possibly unaware of the pregnancy it is likely that the fertilized egg will be released with the menstraul cycle, as there wont be an ideal place for it to embed in the womb (due to the lining shredding) and therfor would be unable to create the placenta which is vital for the child to develop. Naturally I think it would be a correct assumption that if a woman was pregnant and took the morning after pill the child was undesired at the time so the loss isnt that great. Hope this helps

No. More than likely the additional hormone in the pills have just caused you to have more bleeding than usual. This is a normal side effect of taking Plan B for some Women just as starting early and having different cramps are too.

Plan B does not harm a pregnancy so if you were pregnant, it would not have caused an abortion. More than likely this is just a heavier period owing to the additional hormones OR you miscarried all on your own. Miscarriages occur without taking anything a little over half of the time and the majority of Women did not even know that they were pregnant. From what you've posted, this is more than likely your normal period and not a miscarriage.

And, to alleviate your fears, I usually have blood clots when I have my periods and a lot of the time it does look like there's something more to them. Unless you've had a positive pregnancy test, they are just blood clots formed by the shape of your cervix and vagina.

Best of luck!
Peace,
Jenn

PS. Plan B (aka - "the morning after pill") is MOST effective within 72 hours but CAN still be taken up to 120 hours (or 5 days). Taken within 72 hours it is 86% effective in preventing pregnancy, taken within 120 hours and it is still more than 57% effective. AND, they are CURRENTLY researching a different dosage of the pills that will soon be available and can be taken up to 7 days after unprotected intercourse.

So, taking the pills after 5 days, you were STILL protected from pregnancy. Your chances of pregnancy were higher than if you had taken them 3 days after sex but you were STILL PROTECTED.

i think i would call your dr. on that one you might have really hurt yourself...i was told the morning after pill was just that morning after it had to be taken no later then 24-36 hours (maybe 72 im not 100% sure but that is what they told me when i called for my best friend) after the unprotected sex happened and yes the pill has pretty much caused an abortion not on the same level but yes it cleans your system out that is why it was so painful....i have never taken it but plenty of my friends have an they def felt very sick for even a week after

Its very possible. The morning after pill is only good for 72 hours after unprotected sex, If you were that early on in a pregnancy it could have caused an abortion. You def. need to go see your doctor.

The morning after pill can only be taken up to 72hrs (3 days) after unprotected sex. So really you shouldn't have taken it if it was that long after as it's not gonna work! Keep an eye on the cramps and blood loss, maybe you should get it checked at the docs.

The morning after pill when taken is having an abortion!
You are supposed to take it up to 72 hours after sex! It is quite possible that you have had a miscarriage! Go and see your GP! Also find out what it is that you are taking before taking any type of contraceptive pill or morning after and what it is supposed to do!

Go to the doctor! If you weren't but a couple of weeks pregnant then you shouldn't of even seen the baby when you pass it. You may have a sis that has busted. And as for my opinion on the morning after pill. If you are grown enough to have sex then be grown enough to take care of the responsiblity that can go along with it. If not some day you will regrete it when you think back of how you murdered your child living inside you.

No, once the fertilized egg implants, the morning-after pill won't work. Plus, you took it too late to be effective anyway. But it's possible you've experienced an early, natural miscarriage.

Dont listen to fgsteph the last comment is just calas and ignorant ! luckily most people are very sympathetic towards each individuals situation and are not as narrow minded. Anyhow i feel you must go to a+e or your gp for a check asap just to be sure if its too painful sooner rather than later good luck.
