A clarification of another question:
Where do I find information about building codes and permits in my county? I know it is a government office, but I don't know which one and I don't know how to start. I Googled it but got a bunch of confusing sites, none of which was a government office site.
Can someone tell me what department I'm looking for or who to contact to find info?

You can call your local County office and ask for the building and code department.

We went to the county building in our area and was directed to the proper department handling permits and codes. Should be all you have to do.

Call the County office building and ask for permits and inspections. Or call any local contractor... they work with the permit and inspection people all the time.
